A method for purifying uranium includes forming primary uranyl peroxide precipitates (UOO.4HO). Forming the primary uranyl peroxide precipitates includes obtaining impure uranium dissolved in an acidic solution, evaporating the acidic solution to increase uranium concentration and to form a concentrated solution, mixing a hydrogen peroxide (HO) solution with the concentrated solution in a first container, and forming uranyl peroxide precipitates in the first container. The method includes collecting the uranyl peroxide precipitates and washing and drying the uranyl peroxide precipitates. The method also includes converting the washed and dried uranyl peroxide precipitates into triuranium octoxide (UO).

A new composition of matter includes Pt characterized by a specific activity of at least 30 mCi/mg Pt, generally made by method that includes the steps of: exposing Ir to a flux of neutrons sufficient to convert a portion of the Ir to Pt to form an irradiated material; dissolving the irradiated material to form an intermediate solution comprising Ir and Pt; and separating the Pt from the Ir by cation exchange chromatography to produce Pt.

High specific activity platinum-195m

A method of preparing high-specific-activity Pt includes the steps of: exposing Ir to a flux of neutrons sufficient to convert a portion of the Ir to Pt to form an irradiated material; dissolving the irradiated material to form an intermediate solution comprising Ir and Pt; and separating the Pt from the Ir by cation exchange chromatography to produce Pt.

Method of preparing high specific activity platinum-195m

A method of separating lutetium from a solution containing Lu and Yb, particularly reactor-produced Lu and Yb, includes the steps of: providing a chromatographic separation apparatus containing LN resin; loading the apparatus with a solution containing Lu and Yb; and eluting the apparatus to chromatographically separate the Lu and the Yb in order to produce high-specific-activity Yb.
