A device for producing a digital representation of an analog signal in apparatus for use in analyzing samples of biological material. The apparatus conducts such analysis by optical techniques, whereby an analog signal is generated which corresponds to the strength of a light component impinging a light responsive element.

Analog to digital converter for fluid analyzing apparatus

An apparatus for heating samples of biological material contained individually on a plurality of fixtures contained on a centrifuge. A flash tube is located adjacent to the centrifuge to convert electrical energy from a capacitor into heat as the samples of biological material go past the flash tube. A trigger signal is used to cause the capacitor to discharge as the biological material moves past the flash tube. Circuitry is used to control the amount the capacitor is charged by using a fixed number of pulses having a controlled amplitude and to prevent charging of the capacitor when the capacitor is discharged. This causes the flash tube to accurately heat the samples of biological material to a predetermined temperature prior to analysis.

Heat source circuitry for biological material analysis

A motor control system for use in a high speed teleprinter or the like for controlling the rotational position and movement of a rotor, and apparatus driven by the rotor, by detecting back EMF induced into an unenergized field winding by rotational movement of the rotor. The output and input terminals of a first amplifier responsive to a first motor control signal, and a second amplifier responsive to a second motor control signal, are reactively coupled such that the amplifiers respond to either motor control signal to develop a signal simulating the signal into an unenergized winding of the motor due to mutual inductance with an energized winding. A differential voltage comparator provides a feedback signal indicative of motor performance upon comparing the simulated signal with the signal actually induced. In the illustrated teleprinter application, the feedback signal is utilized to control energization of the carriage drive motor to assure accurate positioning of the teleprinter print head, and to provide an accurate indication of actual print head position to the signal processing circuitry of the teleprinter.
