A resonator defining a longitudinal axis that includes a mounting pad, a pad connector, at least one isolation mechanism, and a pair of elongated tines extending in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The isolation mechanism including an outer block defining a first outer end and a second outer end on opposite sides, an inner block defining a first inner end and a second inner end on opposite sides, and a pair of interconnect members, where each respective interconnect member of the pair of interconnect members connects the second outer end to the first inner end. The respective first ends of the pair of elongated tines being connected to the second inner end and the pad connector connects the mounting pad to the first outer end.

A proof mass assembly comprising a first and a second resonator, each resonator comprising a first and a second bond pad, and a pair of elongated tines, wherein the first and the second bond pads are positioned at opposite ends of the elongated tines; a proof mass comprising a first and a second major surface, the first major surface of the proof mass comprising a bond region including at least one channel extending in a direction substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the elongated tines of the first resonator; a proof support comprising a first and a second major surface; at least one flexure connecting the proof mass to the proof support; and an adhesive bonding the first bond pad of the first resonator to the bond region and bonding the second bond pad of the first resonator to the first major surface of the proof support.

An interferometer including a master laser, a slave laser and optical elements is provided. The optical elements direct and combine a master laser beam and a slave laser beam into a sensing phase measurement loop to provide a sensing beat signal and a reference phase lock loop to provide a reference beat signal. An electronic circuit portion is coupled to receive the sensing and reference beat signals. The electronic circuit portion includes a clock, at least one numerically controlled oscillator, at least one mixer and an interferometer output. The at least one numerically controlled oscillator has a clock input coupled to the clock. The at least one mixer has a first input to receive the sensing beat signal and a second input to receive an output of the at least one numerically controlled oscillator. The interferometer output is coupled to receive an output of the at least one mixer.

Large range, high resolution interferometer for wide range of sensing applications

Embodiments described herein provide for a method for obtaining an inertial measurement. The method includes obtaining multiple contiguous high sample rate readings during a time period from a conventional inertial sensor. Non-contiguous low sample rate reading of accumulated motion are also obtained over the time period from an atomic inertial sensor. One or more observable errors are estimated for the conventional inertial sensor based on comparing the low sample rate reading to the multiple high sample rate readings. A compensated hybrid reading is determined by compensating the high sample rate readings for the one or more observable errors based on the estimating of the one or more observable errors.

Estimation of conventional inertial sensor errors with atomic inertial sensor

An accelerometer that has a cross coupling coefficient due to pendulum droop of the proof mass that is approximately equal and opposite in sign to a cross coupling coefficient due to resonator nonlinearity. The accelerometer includes a proof mass, a housing having at least two opposing interior walls, and one or more flexures for flexibly connecting the proof mass at a first end to a first one of the opposing walls of the housing. A first resonator is connected to a first surface of the proof mass at an end of the proof mass opposite the first end and to the housing wall that is not attached to the flexure. A second resonator is connected to a second surface of the proof mass and the housing wall that receives the first resonator. The second surface is on an opposite side of the proof mass as the first surface.

An apparatus and method for monolithic force transducers in which a sensed force is applied across only two ends of a pair of force sensing elements so that the pair of force sensing elements are loaded in series with one in compression and the other in tension, whereby the force sensed by each of the two force sensing elements are identically equal in magnitude but opposite in sense.

Vibrating beam force transducer

The present invention is directed towards apparatuses for rotating a gimbaled platform with rotatable actuators. Gimbal springs comprised of component springs with compliant axes that intersect at a nonzero angle are coupled to the gimbaled platform. Preferably, the compliant axes of the component springs are oriented at an approximately 45 degree angle relative to the actuator rotation axes. Wraparound lever arms coupling the rotatable actuators with the gimbal springs serve to increase the leverage ratio, thereby permitting greater platform rotation for a given actuator rotation.

Gimbaled micromechanical rotation system

The present invention is directed towards a system for rotating a pedestal through the use of rotatable actuators. First and second rotatable actuators having substantially parallel rotation axes are connected to the pedestal via linkage arms and gimbal springs. A coupling mechanism inhibits the first and second rotatable actuators from simultaneously rotating in the opposite sense about their respective axes.

Micromechanical rotation system with coupled actuators

Method for manufacturing microelectromechanical mirror and mirror array. Control electrodes and addressing circuitry are etched from a metallic layer deposited onto a reference layer substrate. Standoff-posts are etched from a subsequently deposited polyimide layer. A freely movable plate flexibly suspended from a plurality of electrostatic actuators that are flexibly suspended from a support frame is etched from an actuation layer substrate using a high aspect ratio etch. A mirror support post and surface are etched from a mirror substrate using a high aspect ratio etch. The mirror and actuation layer substrates are fusion bonded together. The reference and actuation layer substrates are bonded together and held apart by the standoff posts. A reflective metallic layer is deposited onto the mirror surface and polished. The mirror is etched from the mirror surface to free the microelectromechanical mirror. Mirror arrays are made by performing the aforementioned steps using standard IC processing techniques.
