A spray coating system is provided with features to improve resistance to wear and corrosion, while also improving ergonomics. The spray coating system may include a spray coating device having a body with a liquid inlet coupled to a liquid chamber, and a protective liner extending inside the liquid chamber, wherein the protective liner is fixedly coupled to the body without threads. The spray coating device also may include a liquid nozzle extending inside the protective liner, and a cap extending over the liquid nozzle.

A needle assembly may include a needle, a packing assembly that surrounds a first portion of the needle, and an actuatable adjustment element coupled to the packing assembly that changes a relationship between the needle and the packing assembly when actuated. The needle assembly may also include a base assembly that has a collar section and an elongated section. The elongated section includes a bore surrounding a second portion of the needle. The bore may terminate within the elongated section and before the collar section. The elongated section may be coupled to the second portion of the needle via an interference fit.

The present technique provides a system and method for improving a tip assembly for a spray coating device. An exemplary spray coating device of the present technique has a twist tip with air-assist channels. The twist tip may be applied to a spray gun and provides a portion of the fluid flow passage of the gun. Rotation of the twist tip alters the fluid flow path, resulting in increased operator control.

A system includes a pressure vessel configured to receive a pneumatic flow, and to supply pressurized fluid to a spray coating device. The system also includes a first chamber disposed within the pressure vessel, and configured to store a first fluid, and a second chamber disposed within the pressure vessel, and configured to store a second fluid. Furthermore, the system includes a lid removably coupled to the pressure vessel. The system also includes a first fluid pathway extending through the lid, and configured to deliver the first fluid to the first chamber while the lid is coupled to the pressure vessel. In addition, the system includes a second fluid pathway extending through the lid, and configured to deliver the second fluid to the second chamber while the lid is coupled to the pressure vessel.

The present technique provides a system and method for improving atomization in a spray coating device. An exemplary spray coating device of the present technique has a fine finish tip with an atomization section comprising a first fluid impingement orifice, i.e., a pre-orifice, angled toward an expansion chamber and a subsequent second fluid impingement orifice. The fine finish tip is provided as a unitary assembly that may be applied to a spray gun and that provides a fixed relationship between the pre-orifice, the expansion chamber, and the second orifice, which results in refined spray characteristics, such as uniform particle distribution and uniform fan pattern shapes.

The present technique provides a system and for improving control of a needle valve in a spray coating device. An exemplary spray coating device of the present technique has a needle valve assembly that controls entry of a fluid to a fluid delivery tip. The needle valve assembly includes an adjustment element that is at least partially located on an exterior of the spray coating device such that the adjustment element is accessible by an operator. The adjustment element may be actuated to improve a seal around the needle so that fluid does not leak from around the needle valve assembly.

A spray coating device, in one embodiment, is provided with a liquid passage, an air passage, one or more valves configured to open and close flow of liquid through the liquid passage and air through the air passage, a trigger coupled to the one or more valves, and a spray head configured to generate a non-conical liquid spray. The spray head includes a liquid exit in fluid communication with the liquid passage, wherein the liquid exit has a longitudinal axis of liquid flow, an air exit in fluid communication with the air passage, wherein the air exit is coaxial with the liquid exit, a first plurality of air shaping orifices in fluid communication with the air passage, wherein the first plurality of air shaping orifices have first axes that generally converge toward a first point along the longitudinal axis at first acute angles relative to the longitudinal axis, and a second plurality of air shaping orifices in fluid communication with the air passage, wherein the second plurality of air shaping orifices have second axes that generally converge toward a second point along the longitudinal axis at second acute angles relative to the longitudinal axis, the first and second acute angles are different from one another, and the first and second points are in series one after another along the longitudinal axis.

A fluid pressure regulator, for controlling the pressure of fluid in accordance with the pressure of an air signal, is characterized by a housing having a chamber divided into fluid and air chambers by at least two flexible diaphragms. The fluid chamber has a valved inlet for connection with a supply of fluid at an elevated pressure, and an outlet. The air chamber has an inlet for receiving an air signal at a selected pressure. A valve is moved by flexure of the diaphragms to open and close the fluid inlet, so that the pressure of the air signal regulates the pressure of fluid in the fluid chamber and at its outlet. A space is defined between the diaphragms, and vents extend from the space to exterior of the housing. Should the diaphragm on the fluid compartment side rupture, fluid entering the space will flow through the vents and provide a visible indication of diaphragm failure, but the diaphragm on the air chamber side will prevent fluid from entering that chamber. Should the diaphragm on the air chamber side rupture, air entering the space will flow through the vents and cause a whistling sound so audibly indicate diaphragm failure, but the diaphragm on the fluid chamber side will prevent fluid from entering the air chamber. If used to regulate the pressure of liquid coating material in an electrostatic spray coating system, the structure of the pressure regulator prevents it from storing a potentially dangerous electrical charge.
