The systems and methods described herein relate to a high-throughput flow apparatus. The apparatus is used with an array of wells, and is configured to impart a predetermined shear stress on cells cultured within each of the wells of the array of wells. The apparatus includes a plurality of mechanical tips. The plurality of mechanical tips each includes a head with a hemispheroid shape. The apparatus also includes a motor associated with at least one of plurality of mechanical tips. The motor is configured to drive the plurality of mechanical tips to impart the shear stress pattern in each of the wells.

Systems and method for high-throughput testing

A system and method of injection well identification using tracer particles is disclosed. A collector-reader for analyzing magnetic particles in a fluid that is moving with respect to the collector-reader includes an array of magnets whose magnetization direction is varied so as to create regions of high magnetic field gradient in the fluid, a stopper configured to concentrate spatially the particles attracted to the array, and a reader including a source configured to excite the particles concentrated by the stopper and a detector configured to capture a particle excitation signature emitted by the magnetic particles. A method for observing a subterranean reservoir penetrated by a production well and two or more injection wells is also disclosed.

The invention provides a miniaturized, implantable drug delivery device and a method of delivering over a prolonged period of time one or more drugs using such a device. The drug delivery device can be adapted for attachment to the outer surface of an eye. Once attached to the outer surface of an eye, the device can deliver one or more drugs directly into the eye for preventing or ameliorating the symptoms of a particular ocular disorder.

An omnidirectional borehole navigation system is provided that includes a housing that can be placed within the smaller diameter drill pipes used towards the bottom of a borehole, an outer gimbal connected to the housing, and at least two or more stacked inner gimbals that are nested in and connected to the outer gimbal, the inner gimbals each having an axis parallel to one another and perpendicular to the outer gimbal. The inner gimbals contain electronic circuits, gyros whose input axes span three dimensional space, and accelerometers whose input axes span three dimensional space. There are an outer gimbal drive system, an inner gimbal drive system for maintaining the gyro input axes and the accelerometer input axes as substantially orthogonal triads, and a processor responsive to the gyro circuits and the accelerometer circuits to determine the attitude and the position of the housing in the borehole.

Method and apparatus for nondestructively removing a cut segment of predetermined shape from a limp material sheet workpiece and transporting the cut workpiece segment to a staging area for further processing. The cut segment is picked up by a picker which may comprise an array of carding strips, each strip having a plurality of needle-like elements, arranged such that each strip can be displaced relative to its adjacent strips and the needle-like elements of each strip are angularly offset with respect to the needle-like elements of the adjacent strips. Such removal and transporting having is accomplished without distorting the shape of the cut segment.

Method and apparatus for automated handling of cut material

The invention is an improved limp material segment coupling assembly. The segment coupling assembly includes a rigid drive member and a segment coupler having a substantially planar lower surface. The lower surface is adapted to frictionally engage a limp material segment. A spring coupler couples the segment coupler to the drive member. The spring coupler includes at least one bent sheet spring. Each bent sheet spring includes a resilient sheet extending between the drive member and the segment coupler. The spring axes of each of the springs are substantially parallel to the planar surface of the segment coupler.

Limp material segment coupler for a sewing machine to transport fabric

The invention is an apparatus for transporting a limp material segment, such as cloth, along a reference axis parallel to a planar work surface. The apparatus includes a base member positioned above a work surface. A four-bar linkage assembly couples a segment coupling assembly to the base member. The four-bar linkage assembly includes first and second elongated bar assemblies, each being pivotally coupled to the base member. The length of the second bar assembly is controllable within a predetermined range. A third elongated bar assembly is pivotally coupled at a first end to the segment coupling assembly, at a second end to the second bar assembly, and at an intermediate point to the first bar assembly. In addition, the apparatus includes a rotary actuator for selectively rotating the second bar assembly about a pivot axis extending through its point of connection to the base member. When the second bar assembly is in its retracted state, as that assembly is rotated by the rotary actuator, the segment coupling assembly travels along a substantially straight path substantially parallel and adjacent to the reference axis. Furthermore, when the second bar assembly is in its extended state, as the second bar assembly is rotated by the actuator, the coupling member travels in a non-straight path.

Drive assemblies for seam forming apparatus used to form a seam in one or more limp material segments include a fold assembly and a driver for positioning the segments within guide channels in the fold assembly prior to presentation to a seam joining device. The driver controls the segments to be at associated predetermined positions within the fold assembly. The drive assemblies include actuator means for moving drive wheels of the driver between two positions relative to the guide channels.

Drive assembly for seam-forming apparatus

A seam forming apparatus for forming a full felled seam at one lateral edge of each of two limp material segments establishes a specific geometrical relationship between the segments. The apparatus includes a fold assembly which extends along a reference axis from an input end to an output end. The fold assembly constrains portions of said first and second segments adjacent to the lateral edge to be substantially adjacent and substantially straight in the direction transverse to the reference axis at points near the input end of the fold assembly. Those portions are constrained to be substantially V-shaped in the direction transverse to the reference axis and oppositely-directed and interleaved at points outside and near the output end of the fold assembly. Between the input and output ends, those portions are constrained to be substantially adjacent and substantially Z-shaped in the direction transverse to the reference axis.
