Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed for a variable bleed valve assembly. An example variable bleed valve assembly a variable bleed valve (VBV) door corresponding to a bleed port and a first unison ring, the VBV door coupled to the first unison ring, the first unison ring to move in a circumferential direction between a first position and a second position causing the VBV door to move between the first position and the second position.

Bleed valve assemblies

An airfoil assembly is described comprising an airfoil, a band coupled to the airfoil for providing at least a portion of support for the airfoil in the airfoil assembly and a slot capable reducing stress in the airfoil wherein the slot is located in the band near a portion of the airfoil. A compression system is described comprising a stator assembly comprising a plurality of arcuate vane sectors arranged circumferentially around a longitudinal axis, each vane sector comprising an airfoil, an arcuate inner band and an arcuate outer band coupled to the airfoil, and a slot capable of reducing stress in the airfoil, the slot being located in the vane sector near a portion of the airfoil.

Vane with reduced stress

A method enables a variable vane assembly for a gas turbine engine including a casing and an inner shroud to be assembled. The method comprises providing at least one variable vane including a radially inner spindle that has a substantially circular cross-sectional shape, and coupling the variable vane radially between the casing and the inner shroud such that the radially inner spindle is rotatably coupled within an opening extending through the inner shroud, wherein the opening has a non-circular cross-sectional profile.

Methods and apparatus for assembling gas turbine engines

A method facilitates assembling a variable vane assembly for a gas turbine engine including a casing and an inner shroud. The method comprises providing at least one variable vane including a radially inner spindle that includes a groove defined therein that has at least one machined face, and coupling the variable vane radially between the casing and the inner shroud such that at least a portion of the radially inner spindle is inserted at least partially through an opening extending radially through the inner shroud. The method also comprises securing the variable vane to the inner shroud by engaging the spindle machined face with a retainer coupled to the inner shroud.

Gas turbine engine variable vane assembly

A bearing assembly for use in a gas turbine engine to rotatably mount a torque tube in an access hole extending through a fan duct. The torque tube connects a variable stator vane bell crank positioned inside the fan duct to an actuator positioned outside the fan duct. The bearing assembly includes a bearing having a spherical external engagement surface and a housing having a flange and an annular interior surface having an inner edge and an outer edge. The interior surface is sized and shaped for rotatably receiving the spherical external engagement surface of the bearing so the spherical engagement surface and the annular interior surface make contact along an annular contact area centered on a contact plane lying between the inner and outer edges. The contact plane is tilted with respect to the flange at an angle greater than five degrees.

Torque tube bearing assembly

A trunnion support for a variable-position stator vane in a turbomachine. The stator vane includes an upper trunnion and a lower trunnion to allow the stator vane to be pivoted about a longitudinal axis. The lower trunnion is supported in a bushing that is carried in an opening provided in an annular stator vane carrier ring. The bushing is longitudinally split and is installed in the carrier ring while in a laterally compressed condition so that when installed in the carrier ring the bushing bears against the carrier ring opening in which it is positioned. When the carrier ring material expands with rising temperature, the pre-stress in the bushing will cause it to expand to maintain tight frictional engagement between the bushing and the opening and thereby prevent relative rotation between the bushing and the carrier ring to minimize wear of the carrier ring material.
