A surface cleaner may have various features including an engagement mechanism secured to an agitator support frame and positioned to be pivoted by an agitator lift lever as the agitator lift lever translates, the pivoting engagement mechanism lifting the agitator support frame and the agitator secured thereto from a lowered position to a raised position. Other features may include a projection to limit belt slack when the agitator assembly is raised, a compact detent mechanism for releasing a spine assembly in an upright surface cleaner, a compact motor drive assembly, a self-priming centrifugal pump, a fluid-dispensing system having a high flow operating state and a low flow operating state, and a clean-out tray in which a base of the surface cleaner may be docked.

A surface cleaning apparatus adapted for wet cleaning includes a heated fluid delivery system that dispenses heated liquid and steam vapor. The heated fluid delivery system can include a heated liquid outlet and a steam vapor outlet. The apparatus can further include a liquid delivery system, and/or a recovery system.

An extraction cleaner includes a steam delivery system, a liquid delivery system, and a recovery system, and includes multiple cleaning modes, including a first cleaning mode in which components of the steam delivery system, liquid delivery system, and recovery system are active, a second cleaning mode in which components of the delivery system and recovery system are active, and a third cleaning mode in which components of the steam delivery system are active. Methods for operating an extraction cleaner are also provided.

A surface cleaning apparatus adapted for wet cleaning includes a heated fluid delivery system having a dual-phase distributor that dispenses heated liquid and steam vapor. The dual-phase distributor can include a phase separator that separates a vapor phase of a heated fluid from a liquid phase of the heated fluid, a heated liquid outlet, and a steam vapor outlet. The flow control actuator for the auxiliary fluid distributor is operably coupled with a push-push flow control mechanism, where push-push flow control mechanism has a push on/push off configuration such that pushing the auxiliary flow control actuator once starts fluid flow from the auxiliary fluid distributor and subsequently pushing the auxiliary flow control actuator again stops fluid flow from the auxiliary fluid distributor.

An apparatus for cleaning a surface includes a liquid delivery system for storing cleaning liquid and delivering the cleaning liquid to the surface to be cleaned, and an indicator system that is operably coupled with the liquid delivery system to indicate an operational status to the user operating the apparatus. The indicator system can include a light emitter that illuminates when an operational status is detected. The light emitter can illuminate the container storing cleaning liquid.

A system for coupling a container storing a treating chemistry to a surface cleaning device capable of dispensing the treating chemistry to a surface to be cleaned includes a cap provided on the container and a receiver provided on the surface cleaning apparatus. The cap and receiver include plunger valve assemblies that are opened when the cap is coupled with the receiver.
