In an example implementation according to aspects of the present disclosure, a memory controller is disclosed. The memory controller is communicatively coupleable to a memory resource having a plurality of memory resource regions, which may be associated with a plurality of computing resources. The memory controller may include a memory resource interface to communicatively couple the memory controller to the memory resource and a computing resource interface to communicatively couple the memory controller to the plurality of computing resources. The memory controller may further include a memory resource memory management unit to manage the memory resource.

An example system includes a memory controller; a memory bus coupled to the memory controller; and a dual inline memory module (DIMM) coupled to the memory controller through the memory bus. The DIMM includes a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) portion; a storage portion; and a gate array portion coupled to the memory bus to detect memory access signals and to store information related to the memory access signals on the storage portion.

An apparatus and method that permits signal traces of different widths and the same impedance to be placed on the same layer of a printed circuit board (PCB). Alternatively, signal traces of different impedances but the same width may be placed on the same layer of the PCB. Ground and power planes are paired on adjacent layers of the PCB with a portion of the power plane relative to the ground plane removed. Signal traces of the same width and different impedances or vice-versa can be placed on the same layer because each signal trace is referenced to different planes.

A socket is for use in an electronic system to hold a circuit board module that has spaced electrical pads proximate to two opposite edges thereof. The socket includes a base and electrical conductors. The base has rectangularly arranged peripheral portions and is for receiving the circuit board module. The electrical conductors align with the electrical pads on the circuit board module. At least portions of the electrical conductors are disposed on respectively opposite ones of the peripheral portions to contact at least portions of corresponding ones of the aligned electrical pads on the circuit board module when the circuit board module is held in the socket.

A multi-layer circuit board includes a first layer having at least first and second conductive traces of different widths and the same impedance. One of a first power plane and first ground plane has a void region such that the first conductive trace is spaced apart from the first power plane by a first thickness, and the second conductive trace is spaced apart from the first ground plane by a second, different thickness.

A first signal passes through a first layer of a circuit apparatus at a first propagation speed, and a second signal passes through a second layer of the circuit apparatus at a second propagation speed different from the first propagation speed.

An efficient solution to transform an output from a single ended source to a pair of differential signals that are provided to a differential receiver. The differential receiver is any number of devices including a differential clock receiver. The differential signals may be referenced to voltages used to receiver power supply voltages. The present invention obviates the need for an additional differential driver and its required additional devices that are needed to perform transformation of a single ended signal to a pair of differential signals. In one embodiment, two independent power and ground planes are communicatively coupled via a transmission line, or transmission line-like traces on a printed circuit board, and are used to provide uniform impedance control for all return paths within a system.

Single to differential interfacing

A circuit in a printed circuit board includes a trace and a ground plane coupled to the trace that includes slots in the vicinity of the trace. The slots are dimensioned and arrayed such that the trace has a controlled impedance. An array of slots progressing in a direction parallel to the trace preferably includes repeating subarrays displaced by a repeat distance in a direction parallel to the trace that is less than a characteristic wavelength of a signal propagated on the trace, coupling distributively with the trace. The slots may be polygonal, arcuate, or a combination of both in shape. The printed circuit board may include a second trace coupled to the first. Further, the printed circuit board may include a second ground plane that includes slots that couple to the trace.

A multi-pin edge connector assembly for connecting a daughter board to a mother board, for example, comprises a plurality of vias with conductive surfaces that are formed in the daughter board adjacent a connection edge. A plurality of openings are also formed in the daughter board, with each opening extending from the connection edge to one of the vias. Electrically conductive pins are positioned in the openings, with each pin having a first end in electrical contact with one of the conductive surfaces and a second end that projects beyond the connection edge for electrically contacting conductive pads or surfaces on the mother board. A retainer is mounted to the daughter board for holding the pins in their respective openings.

Single to differential interfacing. The present invention provides for an efficient solution to transform an output from a single ended source to a pair of differential signals that are provided to a differential receiver. The differential receiver is any number of devices including a differential clock receiver. The differential signals may be referenced to voltages used to receiver power supply voltages. The present invention obviates the need for an additional differential driver and its required additional devices that are need to perform transformation of a single ended signal to a pair of differential signals. There can be significant cost savings in using the single to differential interfacing that is performed in accordance with the present invention. In one embodiment, two independent power and ground planes are communicatively coupled via a transmission line, or a transmission line-like traces on a printed circuit board, are used to provide uniform impedance control for all return paths within a system. These transmission lines or transmission line-like traces on the printed circuit board have characteristic impedances higher than the characteristic impedances of other transmission paths in the system or the other traces on the printed circuit board. Moreover, a power supply that is used to bias the single ended source is floated with respect to the system ground. The present invention allows for interfacing single ended devices to devices that use differential inputs signals via a cost effective solution in terms of component costs, real estate costs, and in terms of complexity.
