Systems and methods are disclosed for voltage-less electrical signature analysis for fault protection. The systems and methods described herein may involve determining voltage values for a motor (which may then be used to estimate a speed of the motor) when complete voltage measurements may not be available, or may only be temporarily available. More specifically, the systems and methods described herein may address three scenarios, which may include at least: (1) when only a single phase voltage input is available for a three-phase motor, (2) when no voltage input is available, or (3) when a voltage input is only available for a limited period of time (for example, during a learning phase of the motor).

Systems and methods for providing voltage-less electrical signature analysis for fault protection

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for enhanced electrical signature analysis (ESA) for fault detection in electrical machines. The enhanced ESA uses an algorithm that is able to adaptively learn the behavior of a particular electrical machine and automatically establish fault thresholds for the electrical machine without requiring manual inputs from an operator. The particular algorithm described herein to accomplish this may use machine learning that may be used to model the behavior of the electrical machine in real-time and based on any properties specific to the electrical machine.

Enhanced electrical signature analysis for fault detection

The technology described herein is generally directed towards a system for power transmission system protection and fault location, such as implemented in a deployable device at one or more junction points of a power transmission system. Aspects of the described technology can be directed to analyzing a traveling wave corresponding to a fault on a power transmission system. Example aspects can comprise receiving data representing current and voltage components of a traveling wave, maintaining the data in storage for fault location determination of the fault, transforming the data via a wavelet transform, into wavelet transform results and using the wavelet transform results for protection of the power transmission system.

Systems and methods for network failover in digital substations are provided. One method includes receiving, by an intelligent electronic device (IED) from a process interface unit (PIU), in parallel a pre-configured data stream via a point-to point connection and one or more other data streams via an Ethernet network. The method further includes determining that at least one of the following failure conditions is satisfied: a frame in the pre-configured data stream is lost or delayed, quality of the data in the frame in the data stream is below a first threshold, period of the time associated with the data in the frame in the data stream is below a second threshold, or a health indicator associated with the PIU is below a third threshold. The method further allows identifying at least one redundant frame in the one or more other data streams. If the quality of data in redundant frame is satisfactory, the method proceeds to use the redundant frame for further processing.

Systems and methods for network failover in digital substations

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for performing an autonomous procedure for monitoring and diagnostics of a machine using electrical signature analysis. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method includes providing electrical data of an electrical rotating machine associated with at least one fault frequency. While in a learning mode, the method includes converting the electrical data from a time domain to a frequency domain to obtain baseline data. While in an operational mode, the method includes converting the electrical data from the time domain to the frequency domain to obtain monitoring data. The method further includes determining, based at least on the monitoring data, a ratio value at the fault frequency, determining a rate of change of the ratio value at the fault frequency, and, optionally, issuing, based on the rate of change, an alarm concerning at least one event of the electrical rotating machine.

Autonomous procedure for monitoring and diagnostics of machine based on electrical signature analysis

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for configuration-less process bus. In one embodiment, the system includes at least one process interface unit (PIU). The PIU includes at least one pre-configured communication port defined by one of a factory setting or a product code order. The at least one PIU is operable to transmit and receive a data stream. The data stream includes at least one dataset. The dataset includes at least one field for sampled values measured at least at one source. The source includes one of a current transformer or a voltage transformer. The dataset can further include a timestamp and a unique identifier associated with the source. The system can include at least one intelligent electronic device (IED) communicatively coupled to the PIU. The IED can be operable to receive the data stream from the PIU and transform the sampled values based on user-defined transformation factors.

Systems and methods for configuration-less process bus with architectural redundancy in digital substations

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for electrical signature analysis of electrical rotating machines. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method includes ascertaining initial information associated with an electrical rotating machine, assigning a plurality of operational conditions associated with the machine to a plurality of buckets, and recording the electrical data to obtain a pre-defined number of sets of learning data. The method further includes determining, based at least on the initial information and the learning data, that the machine is in a healthy condition, obtaining, based on the learning data, baseline data associated with at the at least one bucket, and generating, based on the baseline data, a threshold associated with the bucket and at least one fault frequency associated with the machine. The method further includes generating, based on the threshold and the baseline data, alarms concerning a state of the electrical rotating machine.

Electrical signature analysis of electrical rotating machines

One or more embodiments of the disclosure pertain to a protection and diagnostic system that can generate a trip/alarm signal by executing a diagnostic procedure upon a machine that includes a rotating part. The diagnostic procedure can include using sensors to obtain performance parameters of various tagged critical and/or less critical sub-systems of the machine when the rotating part is rotating; determining, in real time, a system performance index of the machine based on the performance parameters; using a protection model to determine a sub-system performance index associated with at least one tagged sub-system of the machine; determining an asset health index based on combining the system performance index and the sub-system performance index; and generating the trip/alarm signal when the asset health index exceeds a threshold value. The protection system can include a protection device configured to receive the trip signal and execute a protective action upon the machine.

Machine protection and diagnostic systems and methods

An electronic device configured to switchover power from a primary source to an alternate source to maintain continuity of power supplied to a load bus. The electronic device includes one or more processors configured to identify availability of the alternate source using source monitoring in order to measure and calculate a tracking frequency for controlling a variable sampling interval of the one or more processors. The processors are configured to store signal samples and associated time stamps into a variable length buffer and store new sample values and associated new time stamps into the fixed length buffer. The processors are configured to determine attributes from samples of the alternate source using the tracking frequency. The processors are configured to execute a source switchover signal when the primary source is unavailable based by comparing load bus attributes to alternate source attributes at an estimated instance of switchover.

Method and system for high-speed power source transfer (HS-PST)

A system includes a Synchrophasor Data Management System (SDMS), in which the SDMS includes a Synchrophasor Processor System (SPS). The SPS includes a Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC) configured to receive a first plurality of inputs from a first Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU), transform at least one of the first plurality of inputs into a first time aligned output by time aligning the at least one of the first plurality of inputs. The SPS further includes a virtual PMU configured to aggregate the first time aligned output into a PMU dataset, in which the SPS is configured to transmit the PMU dataset to a second PMU, an external PDC, a super PDC, or a combination thereof.

Systems configured to analyze and/or respond to faults detected during the operation of a power transmission system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes at least one computing device adapted to monitor operation of a power transmission system by performing actions comprising processing operational data from a set of line phases in the power transmission system to detect a faulted line phase; opening a circuit breaker for the faulted line phase in response to detecting the fault; determining whether the fault is transient or permanent; and determining if an arc associated with the fault has been extinguished.
