A system comprising a first device and a second device having an electronic data card associated therewith, information on the electronic data card being useable by and accessible by the first device, wherein the first device is arranged to control the operating characteristics of the electronic data card of the second device. Thus the first device may power up/down the electronic data card, reset the electronic data card or change the clock or baud rate associated with the electronic data card.

The present invention relates to communication system comprising first and second communication devices () each capable of communicating with a telecommunications network (), and both being connectable to each other by a data link () for information transfer and to a method for operating the same. The first communication device () contains individual information, and the second communication device () comprises a special memory area () for storing individual information acquired from the first communication device (). Communication system and method for operating such a system

The present invention relates to an electronic personal device comprising: a central processing unit (), interface means for providing access to a memory area () for storing personal information data of the owner of the electronic device, a user interface () having at least input means () for inputting operating commands, and output means () for outputting information data, locking means () for locking the electronic device to prevent unauthorized use thereof if activated. To enable any third person to operate the electronic personal device without any authorization but only in a limited manner to retrieve personal information about the owner of the device easily, retrieving means () are provided for operating the electronic device to retrieve the personal information data stored in the memory area (), even if the locking means () are activated.

Method and mobile device for non-visually signaling the state of a mobile device

A short messaging communication system for communicating short messages to a user located in an operating region of the system. Information beacons or beacons which function as store and forward devices operable in a corresponding local operating region communicate with terminal devices that are located within the local operating region. Short messages can be 'private' messages wherein only specified recipients are permitted access, or 'public' messages whose access is not limited to specific users. A message stored on a beacon can be retrieved by a recipient when the recipient's presence in the operating range is detected, whereupon the beacon will wirelessly transmit the message to the recipient device. For private messages, a password or other security access code may be required for input into the receiving device to decipher the received message.

Short messaging using information beacons

A network including a host device and a plurality of transceiver beacons for communicating data from terminal devices interacting with the beacons, to the host. The beacons include identification codes used by the host for establishing wireless communication links either between a beacon and the host, or between two or more beacons. A routing mechanism is included in the beacons for selecting a most favorable transmission path among available paths for communicating data to the host.
