A SIM card including: (a) a first NVM for storing user data; and (b) a second NVM, separate from the first NVM, for storing management data related to the user data. Preferably, the first NVM is block-erasable and the second NVM is word-erasable erasable. Preferably, the first NVM is a flash memory and the second NVM is an EEPROM. Preferably, the management data includes a mapping table for mapping virtual addresses, of the first NVM, to physical device addresses. Preferably, the user data and the management data are organized in a file system. Most preferably, the management data includes at least one file allocation table. Most preferably, the management data includes at least one files directory, wherein at least one files directory includes at least one item selected from the group consisting of: a file name, a file size, a file attribute, and a physical address of a file sector.

Method for flash-memory management

A memory card includes a memory for storing data and a controller that is operative to control access to storage of at least a portion of storage conditional upon an authorization of a corresponding identity card of a service provider. A storage system includes an identity card of a service provider and a memory card, wherein the identity card corresponds to the memory card, and wherein access to storage of at least a portion of the memory card is controlled conditional upon an authorization from only this corresponding identity card. A method of doing business includes equipping a mobile phone with an identity card that corresponds to a memory card, configuring the memory card to operate conditional on an authorization from this corresponding secured card, and then offering the mobile phone and the memory card for sale at a discount.

Device and method for controlling usage of a memory card

Portable smartcard devices, methods of executing program code using smartcard devices, and computer readable storage media including instructions for smartcard devices are provided. According to some embodiments, the presently disclosed smartcard device includes an interface for presenting smartcard functionality to a host system and for receiving a program execution command from the host system, non-volatile memory, executable memory, a copying mechanism such as an internal copying mechanism for copying program code from the non-volatile memory to the executable memory, and a program execution mechanism for executing the program code. Appropriate interfaces include but are not limited to ISO 7816 compatible interfaces, USB interfaces, and MMC interfaces. In some embodiments, the smartcard functionality includes SIM functionality and/or USIM functionality. Optionally, execution of the program code commences when only a portion of the copied executable code resides in the executable memory. A method of delivering pre-loaded protected executable code to smartcard users is disclosed.
