A transmission-side cellular phone sends, via a mail server, to a reception-side cellular phone a face image and its attribute information as an attachment to an email. The reception-side cellular phone extracts the face image from the email, selects face part images from among a plurality of face part images stored in the face part storing section, combines the face image and the selected face parts, and displays the combined image. The reception-side cellular phone selects the face part images based on, for example, a number of times a telephone call from a person was not attended in a predetermined period.

A portable terminal reading text, such as predetermined information sent as an electronic mail message, and/or viewable by using a browser in a convenient or user-friendly manner for a visually-impaired user. The portable terminal executes operations including, reading out a first information; reading out a second information; and selectively switching between reading out the first and second information based on information to be read out. Specifically, the DSP is configured to read out a text sentence using a downloaded read-out in voice program. The sound source LSI which possesses a built-in ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) function is configured to vocally output a depressed numeric key by using a registered vocabulary. A communication terminal receives character-based information from a host machine via a communication line. The terminal includes a menu identifying section for identifying menu information from a menu picture received from the host machine, and a menu information storing section for extracting individual informations from the menu information identified by the menu identifying section. The individual informations are selectable using input admissible commands, respectively, and the menu information storing section temporarily stores the individual informations and the corresponding input admissible commands. The terminal further includes a display output control section for outputting at least the individual informations in a manner to match a display fashion of a display unit, and a selecting section for selecting one of the individual informations displayed on the display unit by the display output control section. The terminal further includes a command transmission control section for reading out the command, which corresponds to the individual information selected by the selecting section, from the menu information storing section. The command transmission control section transmits the read-out command to the host machine.

A communication terminal receives character-based information from a host machine via a communication line. The terminal includes a menu identifying section for identifying menu information from a menu picture received from the host machine, and a menu information storing section for extracting individual information from the menu information identified by the menu identifying section. The individual items on the menu are selectable using input admissible commands, respectively, and the menu information storing section temporarily stores the individual items and the corresponding input admissible commands. The terminal further includes a display output control section for outputting at least the individual information in a manner to match a display fashion of a display unit, and a selecting section for selecting one of the individual information displayed on the display unit by the display output control section. The terminal further includes a command transmission control section for reading out the command, which corresponds to the individual item selected by the selecting section, from the menu information storing section. The command transmission control section transmits the read-out command to the host machine.

A network service system capable of providing economical services comprises a plurality of host computers connected to a network for providing services through the network and an information processing terminal connected to the network. The information processing terminal identifies a service identifier, provided in a storage medium for network service, for identifying a type of a network service when the storage medium is attached, connects the line to the host computer which corresponds to the identified service identifier and receives the network service from the line-connected host computer.
