Disclosed is an inflatable seat belt apparatus in which, under ordinary conditions, a bag-shaped belt, (2b) is maintained in a belt-shaped form. When a tongue (5) is engaged with a buckle device (4) in order to fasten the belt, a gas-flow hole (4a) and a gas-flow hole (5a) are registered with each other to form a single gas-flow passageway. Under normal conditions, however, the gas-flow holes (4a), (5a) are shut by caps (11), (12). At, this time a gas generator (9) does not operate and therefore the seat belt apparatus (1) performs a passenger restraining function similar to that of the conventional seat belt apparatus. In the event of an emergency, the gas generator (9) generates a gas which breaks the caps (11), (12) and flows into the bag-shaped belt (2b). As a result, the bag-shaped belt, (2b) expands substantially instantaneously and in a reliable manner. This makes it possible for the passenger to be reliably restrained by the bag-shaped belt (2b) inflated in this manner.

Inflatable seat belt apparatus

Disclosed is an infant-restraining protective seat having an inflatable seat belt, in which an infant seat belt (6) is maintained in the shape of a belt under ordinary conditions. When the a tongue (5) is engaged with a buckle device (4) in order to fasten the belt, gas flow holes (4a) and (5a) are brought into registration to form a single gas flow passageway. Under ordinary conditions, however, the gas flow holes (4a), (5a) are closed by caps (11), (12). Since a gas generator (9) does not operate under ordinary conditions, the protective seat (1) exhibits an infant-restraining function similar to that of the conventional protective seat for infants. At the time of an emergency, the gas generator 9 generates a high-pressure gas that breaks the caps (11), (12) and flows into the infant seat belt (6). As a result, the infant seat belt 6 inflates substantially instantaneously and in reliable fashion. Accordingly, a seated infant is restrained by the inflated seat belt 6 in a reliable manner.

Infant-restraining protective seat having inflatable seat belt

Disclosed is an inflatable seat belt apparatus in which, under ordinary conditions, a bag-shaped belt (2b) of a shoulder belt (2) and a lap belt (3) are maintained in a belt-shaped form and a control member (5d) for controlling the opening area of a through-hole is maintained at an opening-area reducing position. Accordingly, the two belts (2b), (3) are prevented from turning over and twisting so that the seat belt apparatus (1) performs a function similar to that of the conventional seat belt apparatus. In the event of an emergency such as a vehicular collision, a gas generator (8) is actuated and generates a gas which causes the lap belt (3) to inflate. The gas which has filled the lap belt (3) causes the control member (5d) to move to the position at which it enlarges the opening area of the through-hole. Accordingly, the gas easily flows into the bag-shaped belt (2b) of the shoulder belt (2) ahead of a tongue (5). Thus, the bag-shaped belt (2) and lap belt (3) expand instantaneously and in a reliable fashion.

An infant-restraining protective seat having an inflatable seat belt, in which the protective seat has an infant seat belt (6) and a chest-contact pad (7). The infant seat belt (6) has a pair of bag-shaped shoulder belts (6a) and a bag-shaped chest belt (6b). A tongue (5) is connected to the distal end of the chest belt (6). The chest-contact pad 7 is made with a chest-contact portion 7a having a comparatively large areas, and a cylindrical portion (7b) formed at the distal end of the chest-contact portion (7a). The chest belt (6b) is retained by retaining portions (7c), (7d) of the chest-contact portion (7a), thereby attaching the chest-contact pad (7) to the infant seat belt (6). The retaining portions (7c), (7d) are formed to have grooves (7e), (7f). The chest-contact portion (7a) breaks from the grooves (7e), (7f) under the expansion force of the chest belt (6b) when the gas is introduced. Owing to the breakage of the chest-contact portion (7a), the chest belt (6b) and the shoulder belts (6a) inflate instantaneously and in reliable fashion.

In an inflatable seat belt unit of the present invention, a bag-like belt 2b is maintained in a band-like shape in normal case. When a tongue 5 is engaged in a buckle unit 4 for putting the belt on, a gas flow hole 4a and a gas flow hole 5a are aligned, and a gas flowing passage is formed, while the gas flow hole 4a and the gas flow hole 5a are shut off by caps 11 and 12 in the normal case. Because a gas generator 9 is not operated in the normal case, the inflatable seat belt unit fulfills the function to restrain the occupant in the same manner as the conventional type ordinary seat belt unit. In an emergency, high pressure gas is generated from the gas generator 9, and the generated gas ruptures the caps 11 and 12 and enters the bag-like belt 2b. As the result, the bag-like belt 2b is instantaneously and perfectly inflated and developed, and the occupant can be perfectly received by the inflated and developed bag-like belt 2b.

Inflatable seat belt unit

An air bag device for a knee of an occupant includes an air bag adapted to be extended in front of a seat of a vehicle including a zone at a height of the seat, a casing which holds the air bag therein in a folded state, and a gas generator mounted on the casing, the casing being located in a position offset to one of the righthand and lefthand sides of the front of the center of the seat, and the air bag having such a volume as to be extended to the other side by the gas generator. An air bag device for a knee of an occupant includes an air bag adapted to be extended in front of a seat of a vehicle including a zone at a height of the seat, the air bag having a shape when it is extended fully, in which its two end sides in the widthwise direction of the seat have projections toward the seat.

An air bag device for a knee of an occupant, includes an air bag to be extended in front of a seat of a vehicle and in a zone at a height of the seat. The air bag device is arranged at a widthwise center portion of the vehicle. The air bag includes a first air bag to be extended in a zone in front of the righthand seat of the vehicle, and a second air bag to be extended in a zone in front of the lefthand seat of the vehicle.

Disclosed is an inflatable seat belt apparatus in which, under ordinary conditions, a shoulder belt (2) is maintained in a belt-shaped form and a movable lever (7d) is maintained in contact with a main body (7a) at an opening-area reducing position. Accordingly, the belt (2) is prevented from turning over and twisting so similar to that of the conventional seat belt apparatus. In the event of an emergency such as a vehicular collision, a gas generator (8) is actuated and generates a gas which causes a shoulder belt portion (2a) between the gas generator (8) and the intermediate guide (7) to inflate. The gas which has filled the portion 2(a) of the shoulder belt causes the movable lever (7d) to move to the position at which it enlarges the opening area of the through-hole. Accordingly, the gas easily flows into the shoulder belt (7b) ahead of the intermediate guide (7). Thus, the shoulder belt (7) expands instantaneously and in reliable fashion.

A position adjusting device for a shoulder belt in a seat belt assembly includes a belt anchor into which the shoulder belt is loosely passed, an anchor support block supporting the belt anchor, a guide rail slidably holding the anchor support block, and a straight screw member which is arranged along a longitudinal direction of the guide rail and is screwed into the anchor support member, so that the anchor support block may be moved along the guide rail by the rotation of the screw member. A surface layer of solid lubricant is formed on at least one of thread surfaces of the screw member and the anchor support block.

A shoulder belt adjusting apparatus of a seat belt in which a belt anchor in which the shoulder belt is loosely inserted is slidably supported and the position of the belt anchor is vertically adjustable comprising an anchor supporting member supporting the belt anchor, guide rails slidably holding the anchor supporting member, a screw shaft disposed vertically along the guide rails, and a moving member which is screwed to the screw shaft and moves along the guide rails together with the anchor supporting member in accordance with the rotation of the screw shaft with its part loosely put in the anchor supporting member, characterized in that both ends of the screw shaft are rotatably attached to the guide rails and the screw shaft is suspendedly supported by the guide rails at its upper end.
