An absorbent article is disclosed. The article includes a topsheet formed of a section of formed nonwoven web material having an ordered arrangement of zones, each zone comprising one or more attenuated regions adjacent to one or more built-up regions, wherein the attenuated regions have a first average basis weight and the built-up regions have a second average basis weight, wherein the first average basis weight is less than the second average basis weight, the difference in basis weights corresponding to disposition of the filaments according to the ordered arrangement. The attenuated region(s) may be included within a configuration of one or more channel portions on the topsheet. Alternatively or in combination, the attenuated region(s) may be included within a hinge portion extending along a wing portion of the topsheet.

Absorbent article with function-formed topsheet, and method for manufacturing

An absorbent article is disclosed. The article includes a topsheet formed of a section of formed nonwoven web material having an ordered arrangement of zones, each zone comprising one or more attenuated regions adjacent to one or more built-up regions, wherein the attenuated regions have a first average basis weight and the built-up regions have a second average basis weight, wherein the first average basis weight is less than the second average basis weight, the difference in basis weights corresponding to disposition of the filaments according to the ordered arrangement. The attenuated region(s) may include a plurality of discrete low bulk portions arranged in a pattern disposed along a longitudinal axis of the article, which facilitate z-direction movement of fluid through the topsheet and inhibit spreading of a fluid stain along the topsheet in the x and y directions.

An absorbent article having a liquid pervious topsheet wherein at least a portion of the topsheet has been treated to become hydrophobic; a backsheet joined to said topsheet; an absorbent core disposed between said topsheet and said backsheet, said absorbent core having an inner surface oriented toward the skin of the wearer when said absorbent article is being worn and an outer surface oriented toward the garment of the wearer when said absorbent article is being worn; and a surfactant applied to at least a portion of said outer surface of said topsheet wherein the topsheet has been treated hydrophobic and wherein the hydrophilic surfactant is added to the areas treated hydrophobic.

The present disclosure is directed, in part, to webs or topsheets for absorbent articles and methods of making the same. The webs and topsheets include bicomponent fibers having a first component and a second component, wherein the first component has a different hydrophilicity than the second component. The webs and topsheets include a continuous land area and discrete zones of modified surface energy. One of the first and second components forms an outer surface of the fibers in the continuous land area and the other of the components at least partially forms an outer surface of the fibers in the discrete zones of modified surface energy such that the discrete zones of modified surface energy have a different hydrophilicity than the continuous land area.

Webs for absorbent articles and methods of making the same

An absorbent article in the form of a feminine hygiene pad is disclosed. The article includes a topsheet formed of a section of formed nonwoven web material having an ordered arrangement of zones, each zone comprising one or more attenuated regions adjacent to one or more built-up regions, wherein the attenuated regions have a first average basis weight and the built-up regions have a second average basis weight. Through configuration of the regions and the ordered arrangement, inclusion of melt additive to the resin(s) from which the filaments are spun and/or application of a surfactant to a surface of the topsheet, the topsheet may be imparted with a Rewet of no greater than 0.50 g and an Acquisition Time of no greater than 25 seconds, balancing competing topsheet performance characteristics in a manner acceptable or preferable for consumers/users.

An absorbent article having a longitudinal centerline, a lateral centerline, a machine direction (MD) generally oriented parallel to the longitudinal centerline and a cross direction (CD) generally oriented parallel to the lateral centerline is described. The absorbent article includes a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed therebetween. A web having a first surface and a second surface, a plurality of apertures extending through the web from the first surface to the second surface, wherein at least a portion of the plurality of apertures are treated with a composition and at least a portion of the apertures are untreated is disclosed. A method of printing composition(s) on a web is disclosed. The method includes the steps of advancing the web and printing a plurality of composition sites on the web. The method further includes the step of forming one or more discontinuities in the web. The discontinuities correspond to the printed composition sites.

Systems and methods of applying compositions to webs

Material webs suitable for use in conjunction with disposable absorbent articles are disclosed herein. The material webs comprise a melt additive that when subjected to thermal energy may be encouraged to bloom across the entirety of the web or in localized areas of the web where localized thermal energy is applied.

Absorbent article with activatable material

Methods for manufacturing topsheets for absorbent articles are disclosed. The methods may include: providing a cycling forming belt that includes an air-permeable substrate and an ordered arrangement of airflow blocking structures thereon; directing air flow with entrained fibers and/or filaments to a working location through which the belt cycles; drawing the air flow through airflow permeable regions of the belt as they cycle through the working location, and thereby drawing the fibers/filaments to the belt such that they accumulate thereon to form a batt having an arrangement of built-up regions and attenuated regions corresponding with the arrangement of blocking structures, wherein the structures are arranged in individualized single-topsheet configurations that repeat along the machine direction, each configuration being adapted to form a section of web material for a topsheet and to impart a desired formation thereto including channel portions, hinge portions and/or pattern(s) of discrete low bulk portions.
