An uninterruptible power supply includes an input configured to be coupled to a renewable power source and an energy storage component configured to receive and store energy and to provide stored power. Power circuitry is configured to receive the renewable power and the stored power and provide output power to a load. A controller coupled to the power circuitry determines whether an amount of available renewable power exceeds the output power level provided to the load and, if so, provides excess power from the renewable power to the stored energy component.

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a UPS system comprising an input configured to receive input AC power, an output configured to provide output AC power to a load, a converter coupled to the input and configured to convert the input AC power into DC power, a DC bus configured to receive the DC power, an inverter configured to convert the DC power from the DC bus into output AC power and provide the output AC Power to the output, and a controller configured to receive an output AC output voltage level selection from a user, operate the inverter to generate the output AC power having an AC voltage level based on the output AC output voltage level selection, and operate the converter to generate the DC power having a DC voltage level based on the output AC output voltage level selection.

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a method of operating a UPS system having a first UPS and a second UPS, the method comprising coupling at least one control line between the first UPS and the second UPS to operate the first UPS and the second UPS in a parallel mode of operation, providing output power from each of the first UPS and the second UPS to a load, detecting a fault condition in the UPS system, decoupling the at least one control line, operating the first UPS in a diagnostic mode of operation, and determining if the fault condition is associated with the first UPS.

An uninterruptible power supply includes a first input to receive input power from an input power source, an output to provide output power, a switch, a first logic power supply coupled to the switch, a back-up power source, a charger, a main logic power supply and power converter circuitry. The switch is configured to close when a characteristic of the input power is within a selected range. The first logic power supply is coupled to the switch and configured to receive input power from the input power source when the switch is closed. The first logic power supply has a first DC output. The back-up power source has a second DC output and is coupled to the first DC output at a common node. The charger has a third DC output and is coupled to the common node. The main logic power supply is coupled to the common node and is configured to receive at least one of the first DC output, the second DC output and the third DC output. The power converter circuitry is coupled to the backup power source and the first input and is configured to provides the output power derived from at least one of power at the first input and power from the backup power source.

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a method of operating a UPS system having a first UPS, the method comprising powering on the first UPS, detecting a first signal at a first I/O of the first UPS using a first detection circuit of the first UPS, detecting a second signal at a second I/O of the first UPS using a second detection circuit of the first UPS, based on a status of the first signal and a status of the second signal, configuring the first UPS to operate in one of a master mode of operation and a controlled mode of operation.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system includes an AC power input configured to receive AC power from a single-phase AC power source or a multi-phase AC power source, a DC power source, an output circuit including a power output, a controllable switch configured to selectively couple at least one of the AC power input and the DC power source to the output circuit, and a processor coupled and configured to affect operation of the output circuit depending upon which of single-phase and multi-phase operation of the UPS is indicated.

Uninterruptible power supply

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) having an adjustable battery charger that generates a charger current, and a controller, coupled to the adjustable battery charger, that receives a signal representative of a system constraint and provides a reference, based on the signal, to the adjustable battery charger to control an amplitude of the charger current supplied by the adjustable battery charger based on the system constraint. The system constraint may include, for example, a maximum input current to the UPS, maximum charging current of the battery cell, and maximum and/or minimum charger current values.
