The present disclosure provides relates to methods and apparatus for handover optimization in a 5G context using reinforcement learning (RL). In contrast to the conventional handover methods, handovers between base-stations (BSs) are controlled using a centralized RL-based machine learning (ML) agent. This ML agent handles the radio measurement reports from the UEs and chooses appropriate handover actions in accordance with the RL machine learning framework to maximize a long-term utility.

Methods and apparatus for categorising wireless devices

Systems and methods for providing unlicensed drone User Equipment (UE) detection in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In this regard, embodiments of a method of operation of a server for providing unlicensed drone UE detection in a cellular communications network are disclosed. Methods and apparatus for assignment of radio resources in a wireless network

There is provided mechanisms for decoding an encoded sequence into a decoded sequence. A method is performed by an information decoder. The method comprises obtaining a channel output. The channel output represents the encoded sequence as passed through a communications channel. The encoded sequence has been encoded using a polar code. The polar code is representable by a code diagram. The method comprises successively decoding the channel output into the decoded sequence by traversing the code diagram. The method comprises, whilst traversing the code diagram, determining a bit score term for each potential decoding decision on one or more bits being decoded. The method comprises, whilst traversing the code diagram, adding an adjustment term to each bit score term to form a candidate score for said each potential decoding decision. The successive decoding is repeated until all bits of the channel output have been decoded, resulting in at least two candidate decoded sequences. The method comprises discarding all but one of the at least two candidate decoded sequences, resulting in one single decoded sequence.

Information decoder for polar codes

In one example aspect, a method is provided of reporting an indication of one or more estimated signal parameters of a signal from a first cell, beam or frequency in a cellular communications network. The method comprises configuring a signal parameter estimation model based on configuration information from a second cell in the cellular communications network, and determining an indication of one or more estimated signal parameters of a signal from the first cell, beam or frequency using the parameter estimation model. The method also comprises sending the indication to the second cell in response to the indication or the one or more estimated signal parameters satisfying one or more criteria.

There is provided mechanisms for decoding an encoded sequence into a decoded sequence. A method is performed by an information decoder. The method comprises obtaining the encoded sequence. The encoded sequence has been encoded using a polar code. The method comprises successively decoding the encoded sequence into the decoded sequence. The decoding is performed for a given list size, LS, where LS&#x3e;1, defining how many candidate decoded sequences in total the thus far decoded sequence is allowed to branch into during the decoding. The encoded sequence is decoded, until its first branching, by at least as many processing units in parallel as a factor, f, of the given list size. The factor is at least half the given list size, f&#x2265;LS/2.

To perform handover in a multi-carrier network, a node that is currently serving a user equipment, UE, informs the neighboring nodes about the UE position and UE capabilities in terms of supported carriers. The neighboring nodes reply with a figure of merit indicative of connection efficacy, or data from which connection efficacy can be estimated, such as predicted signal quality and strength for each specified carrier. The serving node then determines, based on these predicted values, how to restrict mobility reference signal, MRS, measurements to promising candidate combinations of neighboring nodes and their carriers. Turning on of reference signals is thus limited, excluding nodes and carriers that will not be able to accept handover on technical or policy grounds, as well as nodes or carriers which have poor predicted signal quality.

Handover procedures in multi-carrier networks

A method performed by a first radio node for determining one or more precoders for beamforming of reference signals is provided. The reference signals relate to Channel State Information, CSI, of a forward link channel from the first radio node to a second radio node. The first radio node receives () reverse link reference signals from the second radio node and estimates () a first quality value of the forward link channel based on the received reverse link reference signal. The first radio node then determines () one or more first precoders of respective one or more first ranks based on the reverse link reference signal and the estimated first quality value. When the one or more first precoders have been determined, the first radio node triggers () a first transmission of one or more first forward link reference signals to the second radio node. The one or more first forward link reference signals are beamformed according to the determined respective one or more first precoders.
