The present invention provides a light reflecting polymeric composition that includes at least one halogenated-flame-retardant-additive-free polymer having dispersed therein a pigment package including a combination of SbOand TiO. The SbOand TiOpreferably have an average particle size within the range of from about 0.05 &#x3bc;m to about 1.0 &#x3bc;m, and more preferably about 0.2 &#x3bc;m. When used in combination, the SbOand TiOpigments synergistically interact together to provide a polymeric composition exhibiting a reflectivity that is substantially higher than can be obtained by the use of either of the pigments alone.

The present invention provides a new and improved color concentrate comprising from about 5% to about 20% by weight metal particles component, from about 1% to about 15% by weight colorant material and from about 60% to about 90% by weight thermoplastic polymer. The metal particles component comprises aluminum particles having an undefined configuration and an average particle size of from about 75 &mgr;m to about 150 &mgr;m. The concentrate can be utilized to color thermoplastic polymers and produce a high metallic effect.

The present invention provides a new and improved color concentrate comprising from about 10% to about 30% by weight metal particles component, from about 1% to about 15% by weight colorant material and from about 60% to about 90% by weight thermoplastic polymer. The metal particles component comprises aluminum particles having both a spherical and a lenticular shape. The concentrate can be utilized to color thermoplastic polymers and produce a matte metallic effect.

The present invention provides a new and improved method of producing a dustless vinyl halide polymer color concentrate that does not require the formation of a hot melt or the use of wax. The color concentrate comprises a multitude of fine particles which each comprise a vinyl halide polymer resin core and a colorant material shell. The method includes the steps of providing a vinyl halide polymer, providing a colorant material, providing a compatibilizer having a solubility parameter of from about 7 to about 12 (cal/ml).sup.1/2, and mixing the vinyl halide polymer, compatibilizer and colorant material together to yield the dustless concentrate in the form of a vinyl halide resin core surrounded by a shell of the compatibilzer and the colorant material.

A novel molding composition is described which prevents plateout of pigment on the surface of a mold or shaping apparatus during the molding or shaping operation. The composition has improved thermal and oxidation stability as well as increased compatibility of the components of the composition. The composition comprises a thermoplastic resin, a fluorescent pigment, a metal salt or complex, polymer or oligomer reagent containing a reactive functionality and other conventional additives. The composition is useful in preparing such molded articles as films, bottles, closures, furniture and toys.
