An inverter system is provided such that the system includes a direct-current (DC) voltage supply, an inverter electrically coupled with the DC voltage supply, an electric machine electrically coupled with the inverter, and a controller coupled with the inverter. The inverter has a plurality of legs, each leg including two switches operating complementary to each other, an auxiliary leg having a pair of auxiliary switches, and a resistor coupled parallel to one of the auxiliary switches. A controller is coupled with the inverter and is operative to activate or deactivate the auxiliary leg of the inverter. The controller activates the auxiliary leg to discharge the capacitor or the DC bus through the resistor.

A power supply for use with an N-phase multiphase machine comprises an inverter, an isolation stage and a rectifier The inverter is configured to be coupled to a DC power supply and includes N machine switch circuits for providing N-phase machine drive signals to the multiphase machine in response to N-phase machine drive commands, and an auxiliary switch circuit for providing an auxiliary AC output in response to auxiliary control commands. The isolation stage coupled to the auxiliary switch circuit and generates an isolated AC output. The rectifier is coupled to the isolation stage to rectify the isolated AC output and provide an auxiliary DC supply output.

Inverter apparatuses and systems with a DC energy source are disclosed, in which a planar and radially symmetrical positive DC busbar is coupled with a positive terminal of the DC energy source and a planar and radially symmetrical negative DC busbar is coupled with a negative terminal of the DC energy source. The inverter has a plurality of switches such that the plurality of switches are positioned radially symmetrically with respect to a center of the DC busbars. Each switch is coupled with either the positive DC busbar or the negative DC busbar on a first end and one of a plurality of AC busbars on a second end. An inverter system is provided such that the system includes a direct-current (DC) voltage supply electrically coupled with a DC link, a plurality of inverters, each electrically coupled with the DC link, a plurality of electric machines where each electric machine is electrically coupled with one of the inverters, and a controller coupled with each of the inverters. The controller can control carrier signals of the inverters such that the carrier signals are synchronized and interleaved at an angle (θ) that is determined based on the waveform type of the carrier signals and the number of inverters in the system.

A method for operating a motor control system to dynamically compensate for low-frequency and/or high-frequency torque ripple. Embodiments include receiving an input command, receiving drive feedback signals representative of drive currents in a motor, identifying harmonics in the drive feedback signals representative of motor torque ripple, producing torque ripple compensation signals based on the identified harmonics; and producing motor drive control signals based on the input command, the current feedback signals, the torque ripple compensation signals, and carrier signals with a certain phase shift.

A method for operating an electric drive system is provided. For example, a controller retrieves, from memory, a predictive model indicating predictive winding temperatures associated with known negative temperature coefficient (NTC) temperatures, wherein the predictive model is based on historical NTC temperatures and historical winding temperatures, as well as one or more operating parameters. The controller receives current NTC information indicating one or more current NTC readings corresponding to one or more switching devices within the inverter. The controller determines estimated winding temperatures corresponding to the electric machine based on the predictive model and the one or more current NTC readings as well as current operating parameters. The controller provides instructions to adjust inputs to the electric machine based on the estimated winding temperatures.

The present disclosure provides a circuit for balancing voltages of battery packs to be connected in parallel, comprising: IN-side switches and OUT-side switches; a DC-DC converter with an IN terminal connected to the IN-side switches and an OUT terminal connected to the OUT-side switches; and a controller to operate an IN-side switch to connect a Vbattery pack to the IN terminal, operate an OUT-side switch to connect a Vbattery pack to the OUT terminal, and activate the DC-DC converter to transfer energy from the Vbattery pack to the Vbattery pack. The controller responds to an IN terminal voltage being sufficiently close to a voltage of a first battery pack by operating an IN-side switch to connect the first pack to the IN terminal, and responds to an OUT terminal voltage being sufficiently close to a voltage of a second battery pack by operating an OUT-side switch to connect the second battery pack to the OUT terminal.

DC-DC-converter-based active voltage-balancing system and method for parallel battery packs

An auxiliary resonant soft-edge pole inverter circuit is provided. The power inverter circuitry may include a first pair of capacitors in parallel with a corresponding pair of main power switching modules, each power switching module comprising a switch and a diode in parallel and sharing a common central node with the first pair of capacitors. The power inverter circuit may further include a first pair of auxiliary switches connected in series with a first pair of inductors, respectively, to generate resonant current from a DC power source, the first pair of inductors also sharing the common central node. The power inverter circuitry may further include a second pair of auxiliary switches connected in series with a second pair of capacitors, respectively, the second pair of auxiliary switches also sharing the common central node, the circuit producing an alternating current output at the common central node.
