Systems and methods relating to multi-beam forming networks using an antenna array. A matrix circuit for feeding elements of an antenna array to produce multiple beams is provided. To address beam squint issues, beam squint is mitigated by using a series of phase shifters with specific phase-delay performances between the matrix circuit and the antenna array elements. A linearly increasing or decreasing phase difference in the signals fed into adjacent antenna array elements across the array mitigates or eliminates beam squint in the resulting multiple beams. The phase shifters are programmed to provide this increasing or decreasing phase differences.

Mitigating beam squint in multi-beam forming networks

Systems relating to antennas. Antenna elements are coupled to adjacent other antenna elements by way of a coupler. The coupled antenna elements may be part of the same antenna array. The coupler may take the form of a substrate with conductive traces and the antenna elements may be dipoles or crossed dipole antennas. The coupled antenna elements may have similar polarizations. The capacitive coupling allows for physically smaller reflectors for antenna arrays.

Antenna array with coupled antenna elements

An antenna array is provided which may include different levels of antenna elements on the array. A first set of antenna elements are arranged on a first set of reflectors with the reflectors being arranged in a shape having corners. A second set of reflectors with a second set of antenna elements are mounted on the corners of the first set of reflectors. A third set of reflectors is arranged in another shape with a third set of antenna elements being on the faces of the third set of reflectors. The first and second set of reflectors and antenna elements are on a first level of the array and the third set of reflectors and antenna elements are on a second level of the array. The third set of reflectors and antenna elements are between the first level and the base plate of the array.

Antenna array

A multi-band generalized antenna architecture using two or more types of antenna element is presented. Linear arrays of a first type of antenna element are used for one or more frequencies while a second antenna element type is used for other frequencies. The second type of antenna element is located between the linear arrays of the first antenna element type. The second antenna element type may be arranged in a staggered configuration or they may be arranged as linear arrays as well. The first type of antenna element may be a patch antenna element while the second type of antenna element may be a dipole antenna element. The patch antenna element may be used for high band frequencies while the dipole antenna element may be used in low band frequencies. The spacing in vertical direction is not equal to minimize the effect of arrays on each other.

Simplified multi-band multi-beam base-station antenna architecture and its implementation

Systems and devices relating to antennas and antenna systems. A horizontal omnidirectional antenna has two dipoles with each dipole being in a V-configuration such that the arms of the dipole define an angle. The two dipoles are arranged so that the angles defined by each of the dipoles face and open toward each other. The horizontal omnidirectional antenna can be configured to operate with specific frequency bands. By nesting two instances of this antenna, with one configured for high band frequencies and one configured for low band frequencies, a dualband omnidirectional antenna can be obtained. The resulting antenna is physically compact and can be used in small MIMO systems along with vertical omnidirectional antennas.

An antenna array is provided which may include, but is not limited to, a first plurality of reflectors having a face, a first edge and a second edge, wherein the first edge of each of the first plurality of reflectors is coupled to the second edge of another of the first plurality of reflectors, a first plurality of antenna elements arranged on the face of at least one of the first plurality of reflectors, a second plurality of antenna elements arranged at a corner of at least two of the first plurality of reflectors, a second plurality of reflectors, the second plurality of reflectors mounted to an end of the first plurality of reflectors, and a third plurality of antenna elements arranged on a face of at least one of the second plurality of reflectors.

An antenna array is provided which may include, but is not limited to, a plurality of reflectors, each of the plurality of reflectors having a face, a first edge and a second edge, wherein the first edge of each of the plurality of reflectors is coupled to the second edge of another of the plurality of reflectors, a first plurality of antenna elements arranged on the face of at least one of the plurality of reflectors, and a second plurality of antenna elements arranged at a corner of at least two of the plurality of reflectors, the corner comprising an area where the first edge of one of the plurality of reflectors is coupled to the second edge of another one of the plurality of reflectors.

A dipole antenna is disclosed herein. The dipole antenna may include, but is not limited to, a first transmission line configured to receive a radio frequency signal from a first feed, a first balun galvanically coupled to the first transmission line, a first conductive strip galvanically coupled to the first transmission line and the first balun, a second conductive strip galvanically coupled to the first transmission line and the first balun, a first dipole arm, and a second dipole arm, wherein the first balun and the first transmission line are only capacitively coupled to the first and second dipole arms via the first and second conductive strips.

Dipole antenna

A dipole antenna array element using crossed dipoles is provided. The arms of the crossed dipoles are spaced apart from a ground plane. The length of the arms of the crossed dipoles, as well as the height of the array element, is dependent on the lowest wavelength of signal for which the element is to be used with. To adjust the impedance of the antenna array element, a strip of conductive material is used to enclose an area about the arms of the dipoles. A patch component can also be used with the arms being between the patch component and the ground plane.

Systems and devices relating to dipole antennas. The beamwidth of a crossed dipole antenna is widened by providing a parasitic monopole antenna adjacent to the crossed dipole antenna. In one configuration, each arm of the crossed dipole antenna has, adjacent to it, a parasitic monopole antenna. In another configuration, the crossed dipole antenna is surrounded by a number of other crossed dipole antennas acting as parasitic monopole antenna elements. The center or primary crossed dipole antenna can be for low band signals while the secondary crossed dipole antennas are for high band signals.

Systems, methods, and devices relating to antennas. A crossed dipole antenna element has a ring encircling the antenna. The ring, constructed of a conductive material, is not touching the arms of the dipole antenna and the distance between the ring and the arms of the antenna can be optimized. The antenna element assembly can be used in one or two dimensional antenna arrays.

Systems, methods, and devices relating to an antenna element and to an antenna array. A three level antenna element provides wideband coverage as well as dual polarization. Each of the three levels is a substrate with a conductive patch with the bottom level being spaced apart from the ground plane. Each of the three levels is spaced apart from the other levels with the spacings being non-uniform. The antenna element may be slot coupled by way of a cross slot in the ground plane. The antenna element, when used in an antenna array, may be surrounded by a metallic fence to heighten isolation from other antenna elements.

Wideband multi-level antenna element and antenna array

An array antenna with each antenna element in the array being physically tilted away from a base plane of the array. End antenna elements are tilted at a higher angle than regular antenna elements. The radiation pattern, the end antenna elements can provide coverage directly above the antenna array (i.e. at 90 degrees to the horizontal) for different electrical tilts.
