Identifying a trace based on wait chain coverage analysis comprises identifying a scenario covered by a plurality of traces, as well as a plurality of scenario phases. Each phase has corresponding phase beginning and ending, and is covered by corresponding trace(s) of the plurality of traces. For each prior instance of each phase, a corresponding wait chain comprising a series of wait operations is identified. After identifying signatures configured to match a subset of wait operations in wait chain(s), at least a signature coverage is calculated over the identified corresponding wait chains. The signature coverage characterizes portions(s) of these wait chains that are matched by the signature(s). Based on calculating the signature coverage, one or more of the plurality of traces are identified as having unknown wait states, based on the identified trace(s) corresponding to a larger amount of uncovered wait chain portions than others of the plurality of traces.

Trace identification based on wait chain coverage analysis

A stub directory is written out to a storage device for multiple files in a container file, the stub directory including identifiers of the multiple files but excluding data of the multiple files. In response to a request to access one file of the multiple files, the data of the one file is written out to the storage device. A requested modification is allowed to be performed on the one file written out to the storage device to generate a modified version of the file. After modification of the one file is completed, a previous version of the file in the container file is replaced with the modified version of the file.

Selectively modifying files of a container file

One or more levels of a stub directory from a container file are written out to a storage device. The stub directory initially includes identifiers of one or more directories in the one or more levels of the stub directory but not identifiers of additional directories in the one or more directories. In response to a request to access one of the one or more directories, identifiers of one or more additional directories and/or one or more files in the one directory are extracted from the container file.
