An apparatus for controlling a machine tool including a tool holder spindle for performing a machining operation, a motor for rotating the spindle, an operator's control panel which has a data display with a plurality of display digits, and a plurality of operator's control switches, and a control device comprising a motor controller for controlling the spindle motor, according to control data entered through the operator's control switches. The control device includes a special-operation detector for detecting one of at least one special operation of at least one of the control switches, a mode selector for selecting one of at least one special operation mode of the control device corresponding to the detected one of the at least one special operation, and a special data setting controller for placing the data display in the selected one special operation mode and permitting the control device to enter special presetting data through the control switches.

Apparatus for controlling a reciprocating movement of a reciprocating member over a predetermined operating stroke by forward and reverse rotations of a drive motor. The apparatus includes an encoder for generating pulses each corresponding to an incremental distance of movement of the reciprocating member, and an operator's control panel having a plurality of operator's control switches for entering data and commands for controlling the drive motor, and a data display normally placed in a display mode for displaying information, a motor controller for controlling the drive motor according to the entered data and the encoder pulses. A detector is provided for detecting a specific command generated by the control switch or switches. The display is controlled by a display controller such that upon detection of the specific command by the detector, the display is placed in an inspection mode for providing an indication as to whether the encoder pulses are present or not.

An apparatus for controlling an operating stroke of a reciprocating member to be reciprocated by a drive motor. The apparatus includes an encoder adapted to generate pulses each of which corresponds to a predetermined incremental distance of movement of the reciprocating member, a counter for counting the pulses during movement of the reciprocating member in a forward direction, a device for converting the operating stroke into the number of the pulses corresponding to a multiple of the incremental distance of movement, and a residual distance which is a difference between the operating stroke and the multiple, a device for converting the residual distance into a corresponding residual time, and a device for commanding the drive motor to stop an operation thereof causing a further forward movement of the reciprocating member, when the residual time has elapsed after a count of the counter is equal to the above-indicated number of the pulses.

Riveting machine

A tapping machine provided with a quill for rotatably supporting a spindle which holds a tap on one end thereof, a reversible electric motor for rotating the spindle and axially reciprocating the quill, an overload release clutch mounted in a power transmitting mechanism which is disposed between the quill and the motor, for suspending the power transmission between the quill and the motor when an overload is applied on the quill, and pulse signal generating means mounted between the clutch and the quill in the power transmitting mechanism for generating one pulse signal in response to each one pre-set unit distance of the quill during the forward motion thereof. The tapping machine performs a working cycle in good order wherein the spindle advances from the start position while being forwardly rotated until the number of pulse signals generated from the pulse signal generating means accords with a pre-set number and returns while being backwardly rotated back to the start position. The tapping machine is also provided with means for generating overload sensing signal when an interval between any two pulse signals from the pulse signal generating means exceeds a predetermined time duration, so as to backwardly rotate the motor immediately after the generation of the overload sensing signal, that is, an abnormal condition warning signal for returning the spindle to the start position.
