A defoaming agent for cementitious compositions is provided, which has an excellent defoaming performance and does not segregate when mixed with a high performance AE water-reducing agent to form a single admixture or when diluted in water at the desired concentration, and which has excellent long term storage properties. The defoaming agent for cementitious compositions is obtained by mixing at least a polyethylene oxide derivative and a nonionic defoaming agent wherein the polyethylene oxide derivative has at one end a hydrophobic group with a branched structure and/or an unsaturated bond and at the other end an anionic group.

A cement additive comprising a polycarboxylic acid type copolymer and/or a salt thereof and a polyalkylene glycol derivative, wherein said polycarboxylic acid type copolymer contains one or more species of copolymers composed of at least an unsaturated polyalkylene glycol type monomer and an unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid type monomer as their monomer components. Concretes in which the additive is used have excellent flow, without significant retarding effect, and a low air entrainment. When used with concrete for steam curing it allows earlier removal of form work.

A multi-functional cement dispersant contains a graft copolymer obtained by a graft reaction of one or more selected from polyoxyalkylene monoalkylester, polyoxyalkylene monoalkylether and polypropyleneglycol of specified kinds to a copolymer obtained by radical polymerization of a mixture of radical polymerizable monomers containing maleic anhydride and monomers of a specified kind at a specified ratio. Hydraulic cement compositions produced with such a multi-functional cement dispersant have a superior fluidity with reduced loss over time and hardened objects produced from such a composition exhibit a superior early strength and have a low dry shrinkage and a high resistance against freezing and thawing.

A material for improving the surface appearance of cementitious mouldings comprises a polyalkylene oxide compound which is selected from polypropylene oxide adducts of either polyethylene glycol or polyethylene oxide-ethylene diamine adduct, polypropylene oxide chains being attached to all terminal groups. The material may be added to a cementitious composition as an admixture or applied to the surface of a moulding which has not yet hardened.
