An optical modulator with which electrical connection between a signal electrode and signal wiring of a wiring substrate can be reliably made even in a case where a width of the signal electrode in an action portion of an optical control substrate is narrow is provided. An optical modulator includes an optical control substrate () that includes an optical waveguide (OW) including at least a branched waveguide which branches one light wave into two light waves, and that includes a control electrode for applying an electrical field to the branched waveguide, and a wiring substrate provided with a wiring which relays an electrical signal to be applied to the control electrode or with a wiring which terminates the electrical signal, in which the control electrode is provided with a signal electrode(S), the wiring is provided with signal wiring, and in a part (Sc) in which electrical connection is made between the signal electrode(S) and the signal wiring, a clearance (W) in which the branched waveguide (OW) sandwiches the signal electrode is wider than a clearance (W) in which the branched waveguide sandwiches the signal electrode in an action portion in which the control electrode applies the electrical field to the branched waveguide.

Optical modulator and optical transmission device using same

An optical modulator using an optical modulation element in which an optical waveguide and a plurality of electrodes for controlling light waves propagating through the optical waveguide are formed on a substrate, in which at least one stress relieving structure is provided on an upper surface of the electrode opposite to a surface of the substrate in order to relieve stress generated due to pressure applied at the time of wire-bonding of a metal wire.

Optical modulator and optical transmission apparatus

An optical modulator includes an optical modulation element that is accommodated in a housing. A plurality of lead pins, which are electrically connected to the optical modulation element through wire bonding, are fixed to a lateral wall of the housing. Each of the plurality of lead pins includes a portion that protrudes into an inner space (inner surface side) of the housing. A resonance suppressing structure (for example, a concave portion), which is configured to suppress resonance between the lead pins, is provided in a lateral wall portion to which the plurality of lead pins are fixed.

An optical modulator according to the present invention includes an optical branching section having at least one beam splitter and a mirror and configured to branch input light, a lens configured to converge the respective lights branched in the optical branching section, a plurality of phase modulation sections each configured to perform phase modulation of each light which is input thereto through the lens, and an optical combining section configured to combine a plurality of phase-modulated lights which are output from the plurality of phase modulation sections, and output modulated signal light.

A method for fixation of optical fiber in an optical device module, and a fixation pipe, the method of fixation comprising the steps of utilizing a fixation pipe configured for insertion of the optical fiber, and adapted for affixation of the fiber by solder in an intermediate part of the pipe, the external surface of the intermediate part having a groove for a copper bit; installing the pipe to the case so that the intermediate part is positioned outside the case; inserting the fiber inside the pipe so that a stripped part of the fiber is in the intermediate part, and a coated part of the fiber is positioned opposite to the case from the intermediate part; and contacting a copper bit to the groove, to affix the fiber to the pipe by solder. The fixation pipe has the features described above.
