An apparatus and a method of control of the engine for separating and detecting the fuel remaining in the engine and in the intake passages before the start of the engine and also detecting the fuel property, and calculating a parameter such as an optimum fuel injection quantity when the engine is started, and thus enabling an efficient exhaust performance and a good running performance to be compatible at start-up. The engine control apparatus has a unit for detecting or estimating a burned fuel quantity of the engine, and a unit for separating and detecting a burned fuel quantity supplied from the fuel injection valve and a burned quantity of fuel other than the fuel supplied from the injection valve.

By a lean burn operation, a highly efficient operation region is enlarged, the proportion of engine operation in a low torque condition is increased, and the proportion of motor operation using a battery is decreased. It is possible to provide a hybrid car of an engine-electric motor configuration which can effect a highly efficient operation without increasing the capacity of motor and that of battery.

Hybrid car

An internal combustion engine controller, is used with a fuel-based torque-on-demand control type, multi-cylinder, direct-injection internal combustion engine, to provide an air flow rate control that excels in response and convergence. The internal combustion engine controller includes a section for computing a target throttle opening from operating conditions, which in turn includes a first computing section for determining a target throttle opening by feedback control in accordance with operating conditions including an intake air flow rate; a second computing section for determining a target throttle opening by feed-forward control in accordance with operating conditions; and a third computing means for determining a target throttle opening based on the target throttle opening value determined by the first computing means and the second computing means.

Controller of internal combustion engine

A method is provided for easily avoiding undesirable effects on various physical values due to the change in temperature of a motor for driving a throttle valve without causing secondary problems. A technique is also provided for measuring the temperature of the motor electrically. The method uses a compensation device for correcting the power supply to the motor by detecting the impedance of the motor windings and/or the change in the motor temperature. The temperature of the motor is estimated from the current and voltage to the motor.

The positions of vaporization and leakage and their amount in the fuel tank and the fuel pipe are detected when using a low boiling point fuel having a vapor phase in the normal temperatures and atmospheric pressures, and the fuel state is controlled based on those detected values. By providing another container made of elastomatic material having an expandable mechanical characteristic inside the fuel storing container, the low boiling point fuel is stored in the separate container. A flow rate controlling apparatus is provided for heating or cooling the fuel pipe leading the low boiling point fuel stored in the fuel storing container to the engine. A flow rate controlling apparatus is provided for adjusting the flow rate of the fuel in the fuel pipe for leading the low boiling point fuel stored in the fuel storing container to the engine.

Fuel supply apparatus using low boiling point fuel and its control method

A control apparatus operates a compression ignition internal combustion engine by switching between spark ignition combustion using an ignition device and compression ignition combustion which self-ignites a mixture by piston compression. Variable valve mechanisms vary at least one of the valve timings and valve lifts of an intake valve and an exhaust valve. Intake air is regulated to vary the amount of air intake into a combustion chamber on the upstream side of a combustion chamber inlet of the compression ignition internal combustion engine. The variable valve mechanisms and the intake air regulation are controlled during the compression ignition combustion so as to perform the compression ignition combustion.

Compression ignition internal combustion engine

A combustion control device and a method for a direct injection engine are disclosed wherein, when the engine is operating in the partial load range, the valve opening/closing mode of an intake valve and/or an exhaust valve is controlled so that exhaust gases remain in a combustion chamber; and control is performed such that fuel is injected from a fuel injection valve into residual exhaust gases at least once during the time period from the latter half of an exhaust stroke to the first half of an intake stroke in one combustion cycle, and that an air-fuel mixture is ignited in the latter half of a compression stroke thereafter.

A compression ignition internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber, an intake valve, intake port, and an exhaust valve. The temperature and pressure in the combustion chamber are increased to self-ignite an air-fuel mixture with the compressive operation of a piston after closing of the intake valve. A fuel injection valveinjects pressurized air, serving as an ignition trigger factor, directly into the combustion chamber so that the air-fuel mixture under the expansion stroke of the piston is brought into an ignitable state. An ECUcontrols the injection timing of the pressurized air depending on the ignition timing. The self-ignition timing can be controlled to a proper timing in a wide engine operating range with respect to a load and a revolution speed without changing the shape of the combustion chamber to a large extent.

A control device for a throttle valve is provided, which, by dispensing a position sensor for the throttle valve, can reduce a cost of the sensor and which is excellent in durability and reliability and is reduced in its control delay. The control device includes an air flow sensorfor detecting an air flow rate flowing through an intake pipe of an internal combustion engine, a motorfor driving the throttle valvedisposed in the intake pipe and an ECUfor controlling the driving operation of the motor. The ECUfeedback-controls the output of the air flow sensor so that a difference between the output of the air flow sensorand an air flow rate required for the engine reduces.

Device for controlling throttle valve

A control device for a throttle valve, by dispensing a position sensor for the throttle valve, can reduce a cost of the sensor and which is excellent in durability and reliability and is reduced in its control delay. The control device includes an air flow sensorfor detecting an air flow rate flowing through a intake pipe of an internal combustion engine, a motorfor driving the throttle valvedisposed in the intake pipe and an ECUfor controlling the driving operation of the motor. The ECUfeedback-controls the output of the air flow sensor so that a difference between the output of the air flow sensorand an air flow rate required for the engine reduces.
