A heat exchanger for exchanging heat between a first medium and a second medium has a body comprising a pair of header plates, a pair of distribution plates, and a pair of case body lateral panels. Input and output header plates have a plurality of orifices, with a flow path assembly extending between each input header plate orifice and the corresponding output header plate orifice. Each flow path assembly includes at least one chamber assembly, having a corresponding medium directing component, and transports the first medium. Input and output distribution plates have a plurality of orifices. An inlet side tank engages with the input distribution plate, and an outlet side tank engages with the output distribution plate. The second medium flows from the inlet side tank through the input distribution plate orifices, over the flow path assemblies, through the output distribution plate orifices, and into the outlet side tank.

Each flow path assembly includes at least one chamber assembly, having a corresponding medium directing component, disposed between a pair of tubular segments. Input and output distribution plates have a plurality of orifices. A first medium inlet side tank engages with the input header, a first medium output side tank engages with the output header plate, a second medium inlet side tank engages with the input distribution plate, and a second medium output side tank engages with the output distribution plate.

Heat exchanger utilized as an EGR cooler in a gas recirculation system

A heat exchanging device has a main chamber, two sub-chambers, an inlet and an outlet. The sub-chambers extend outwardly from both planar walls of the main chamber. Disposed within main chamber and the sub-chambers is a medium directing insert. The insert has an angled surface on ends facing the inlet and the outlet, first directing the flow of the heat exchange medium into the main chamber, so that the heat exchange medium is dispersed within the main chamber, then directing the heat exchange medium out of the device through the outlet. The medium directing insert is bonded to the lateral walls of the sub-chambers to enhance the structural integrity of the device. The lateral walls of the medium directing insert cooperate with the planar and lateral walls of the main chamber to form channels for directing flow of the heat exchange medium within the device.

Heat exchanger utilizing chambers with sub-chambers having respective medium directing inserts coupled therein

A heat exchanger has a plurality of chamber units. The chamber units include an inlet orifice, an outlet orifice, and a plurality of walls defining a chamber interior. The inlet receives a heat exchange medium flowing in a first flow direction in an initial line of flow. Disposed within the chamber interior is a medium directing member, having an inclined surface, which diverts the heat exchange medium from the initial flow direction so that it disperses within the chamber interior in at least two distinct flow patterns. Directional flow of the medium may be facilitated by two medium directing channels disposed within one or more of the chamber walls. Protrusion members on one or more chamber walls enhance dispersion of the heat exchange medium, causing a turbulent flow pattern within the chamber interior. The heat exchange medium exits the chamber, via the outlet, in the initial line of flow. The chambers are interconnected to form assemblies. Plural assemblies are arranged between manifolds to complete the heat exchanger.

Heat exchanger with heat exchange chambers utilizing protrusion and medium directing members and medium directing channels

A heat exchanging device includes first and second disk members coupled together to form a disk unit having a chamber. The first disk member has an inlet and the second disk member has an outlet. At least one of the disk members has first and second connecting members coupled to the other disk member. The connecting members are arranged on opposite sides of a line extending axially through the inlet and outlet to define therebetween an inlet flow path above the line and outlet flow path below the line. A medium directing member is disposed within the disk unit. The medium directing member, the first and second connecting members and the chamber are arranged such that heat exchange media is directed to flow from the inlet, through the inlet flow path, through the chamber, through the outlet flow path, and into the outlet.

Heat exchanging apparatus and method of making same

A heat exchanging device includes first and second disk members coupled together to form a disk unit having a chamber. The first disk member has an inlet and the second disk member has an outlet. A medium directing member is disposed within the disk unit. A first end of the medium directing member has a first channel formed at an angle to direct heat exchange media flowing in from the inlet to the chamber, and a second end of the medium directing member has a second channel formed at an angle to direct the heat exchange media out of the chamber through the outlet. A plurality of disk units are coupled together in a row. Multiple rows of the heat exchanging devices may be disposed between manifolds.

A heat exchange chamber includes an inlet, an outlet and a plurality of walls defining a chamber interior. The inlet receives a heat exchange medium flowing in a first flow direction in an initial line of flow. Disposed within the chamber interior is a medium directing member, having an inclined surface, which diverts the medium from the initial flow direction so that it disperses within the chamber interior. The medium exits the chamber, via the outlet, in the initial line of flow. The chambers are interconnected by tubes to form assemblies. An automobile climate control system has a coolant dispersing device to allow coolant to flow. A heat exchanger cools the coolant. A manifold block allows the coolant to transfer between the coolant dispersing device and the heat exchanger. The manifold block is in communication with the heat exchanger and the coolant dispersing device. At least one separately formed clasp is fixedly mounted to the manifold block. The at least one clasp has separate legs to fixedly mount the at least one clasp to the heat exchanger. The at least one clasp has a first flange member. A first end of the first flange member is fixedly mounted to an aperture in the manifold block.

An automobile climate control system having a liquid dispersing device to allow coolant to flow. The system also utilizes a heat exchanger to cool the liquid. A manifold block handles the transfer of coolant between the coolant dispersing device and the heat exchanger. The manifold block is in communication with the heat exchanger and the coolant dispersing device; and at least one clasp connects the manifold block to the heat exchanger. A fitting clasp made from the clad material couples the heat exchanger to the at least one clasp.

Apparatus for coupling a manifold block to a condenser manifold

A heat exchanger system including an outer duct housing a powered fan at one end. A heat exchanger is positioned in line with the fan within the duct and includes two nested pipes. Each pipe includes radially outward fins and radially inward fins. The radially inward fins on the outer pipe and the radially outward fins on the inner pipe are interdigitated. Appropriately positioned radial dividers extend fully between the bodies of the two pipes to divide the space between pipes into segments. End caps placed on the ends of the pipes include baffles which appropriately divide annular manifolds defined between the pipes and between the ends of the fins and the end caps in order that four passes are possible through the length of the heat exchanger. The radial dividers may be asymmetrically positioned to accommodate changes in volume with condensation of the fluid passing between the inner and outer pipes.

Heat exchanger

A heat exchange system for an engine having cooling passages and a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger has a shell side flow of coolant from the cooling system and air flowing through tubes which extend across the shell and are open at both ends to outwardly of the shell. The tubes may have fins on the outer and/or inner surfaces. The tubes may be formed with one of the tube sheets, with the other tube sheet defining rectangular sidewalls and including holes through which the tubes penetrate and are sealed. An inlet and an outlet are diametrically opposed with flow therebetween being regulated through baffling.
