The vehicle-use power supply control apparatus includes a first battery supplying electric power to a load, an alternator driven by a vehicle engine, a second electric accumulator parallel-connected to the first battery, an electric power converter performing two-way power transmission between the first and second batteries, and a power supply control unit. The power supply control includes a function of setting a target power generation efficiency index, a function of setting a target power generation amount of the alternator on the basis of the target power generation efficiency index, while referring to a map defining relationship between a power generation efficiency index and a power generation amount of the alternator, and a function of controlling an amount and a transmission direction of transmission power of the electric power converter in order that an amount of electric power generated by the alternator becomes equal to the target power generation amount.

An idling stop control of the invention attains an auto start and an auto stop of an engine. At a time point t, pre-set stop conditions are met to cut off a fuel supply to the engine. Preset starting conditions may be met at a time point twhen the engine still continues rotating in a normal direction by the inertial force. In this state, the idling stop control starts cranking the engine. The preset starting conditions may be met at a time point twhen a piston does not complete a compression cycle immediately before a stop of the engine but is pressed back by the compressed air to rotate the engine in a reverse direction. In this state, the idling stop control waits until cancellation of the reverse rotation of the engine and then starts cranking the engine. The arrangement of the invention desirably ensures a quick start of the engine, while effectively preventing an excess stress from acting on a gear mechanism, which connects a starter motor to the engine.

A suspension control system of the present invention varies a damping force according to a velocity ratio of a mass-body velocity to a relative velocity, while ensuring both a comfortable drive and stable cruising. In the suspension control system, a CPU calculates a mass-body velocity Zd and a relative velocity Yd based on detection signals from sensors and determines a velocity ratio Zd/Yd (steps S110 and S120). A small skyhook damping coefficient is set for a small vehicle speed V to reduce a damping force according to the velocity ratio Zd/Yd (step S130). In the process of varying the damping force, a stepping motor used for the variation in damping force is driven at a low driving frequency for a small vehicle speed V (step S180). While the vehicle runs at a relatively low speed, the suspension control system of the invention restricts the degree of variation in damping force and lowers the rate of variation in damping force, thereby relieving shocks or uncomfortableness due to a delayed control of damping force, which is caused by a delayed detection of the relative velocity or a delayed response of devices and substantially maintaining a drive.

A vehicle collision detecting apparatus is provided which includes a casing having an opening, a base support member fitted into the opening of the casing to retain a movable contact and a stationary contact, a mass member biased by a spring in a first direction along a given path of travel defined in the casing to urge the movable contact into constant disengagement from the stationary contact, and a stopper member formed on the base support member to restrict movement of the mass member in the first direction urged by the spring to hold the movable contact at a given contact gap away from the stationary contact. The mass member is responsive to acceleration caused by impact acting on the apparatus to move in a second direction opposite the first direction against a spring force exerted by the spring to engage the movable contact with the stationary contact to provide a signal indicative of occurrence of a vehicle collision.
