The exhaust pipe of an engine has a double-wall structure consisting of an inner pipe and an outer pipe, and the inner pipe is spaced from the outer pipe with a predetermined clearance (heat insulating layer). The exhaust pipe includes a fitting for connecting other parts. At this fitting portion, the outer pipe has a outer hole. Likewise, the inner pipe has an inner hole. A nipple is situated on the outer pipe around the edge of the outer hole and is fixed to the outer pipe. An oxygen sensor is fitted to the nipple, and it extends through the inner hole of the inner pipe. A seal which is provided between the oxygen sensor and the flat portion of the inner pipe slidably contacts the step and the flat portion such that the fitting is unaffected by unequal thermal expansion between the inner and outer pipes.

Engine exhaust pipe

A butterfly valve adapted to be arranged in a pipe through which fluid can flow, the pipe having an axis and an outlet end, the valve comprising a valve shaft having an axis eccentric to the pipe axis, and a valve element integrally supported by the valve shaft. The valve is opened by a fluid pressure acting on the valve element. A part of the valve element on one side of the valve shaft has a tip portion bent along a pleat line substantially parallel to the shaft axis toward the upstream side of a fluid flow. The valve is arranged at the outlet end of the pipe to form a clearance between the valve element part around the pleat line and the outlet end of the pipe, to thereby allow the fluid to flow out through the clearance, when the valve opens from a closed position thereof.

The double walled exhaust pipe of the present invention consists of an outer pipe which forms an outer wall of the exhaust pipe and an inner pipe which forms an inner wall of the exhaust pipe, the outer pipe and the inner pipe are fixed each other at an exhaust inlet portion which provides a reference point of the thermal expansion of the inner pipe and the outer pipe. The double walled exhaust pipe of the present invention has at least one bent portion. Further, the inner pipe of the double walled exhaust pipe is divided into longitudinal pipe sections, and at least one sliding connection, which connects the sections of the inner pipe permitting the relative longitudinal slide movements of the pipe sections, is provided between the exhaust inlet portion and the bent portion having the largest bending angle.

An electromagnetic fuel injection valve for an internal combustion engine having a valve body with a single fuel injection hole and a plurality of injected fuel paths. A meeting portion of the injected fuel paths is provided downstream of the fuel injection hole and upstream of the injected fuel paths. A wall of the meeting portion is formed to have an inner transverse dimension not smaller than a total corresponding transverse dimension of walls of the injected fuel paths. A combustion chamber in each cylinder has a plurality of intake valves and intake air is distributed into respective divided flow intake air path portions to enter each combustion chamber from a plurality of the intake valves through these divided flow intake air path portions. And in a fuel injector, injected fuel collides with injected air to promote atomization of injected fuel. Each fuel injector has a plurality of fuel injection ports directed to the respective divided flow intake air path portions and a plurality of air-fuel injection ports which are provided coaxially with the respective fuel injection ports and through which injected fuel passes after colliding with injected air. As a result the injected fuel is smoothly distributed to the respective divided flow intake air path portions.

An apparatus for controlling the amount of secondary air fed into an internal combustion engine which includes means for controlling the response speed of a secondary air flow control means in accordance with an electrical signal. This signal is generated by integrating the value of an intake air amount signal, which is generated by multiplying the rotational speed of the engine and the load of the engine, in an interval direction determined by an equivalent air-fuel ratio condition of the engine. Thus, the equivalent air-fuel ratio can be controlled with a response speed corresponding to the amount of the flow of the exhaust gas. Furthermore, excessive control of the equivalent air-fuel ratio can be prevented.

Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling the amount of secondary air fed into an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes an independent means for rapidly applying an absolute pressure signal to a secondary air flow control means, so that secondary air is rapidly supplied into the engine when the secondary air flow control means is being reset in its initial position, and then, next, a rich signal is applied. Thus, the equivalent air-fuel ratio can be correctly controlled, without delay, in response to changes in the operating condition of the engine.
