A dental treating apparatus has a head unit having a holder for drivably holding a cutting tool, a hand piece body connected to the head unit for transmitting power to drive the cutting tool, and a controller for controlling the driving of the cutting tool. The dental treating apparatus further has a conductive body disposed in an inside of the hand piece body for transmitting an electric signal, contact members electrically connecting the cutting tool or the holder with the conductive body, a connection failure detector for applying a predetermined input signal to the conductive body and detecting a connection failure of the contact members based on a response to the input signal obtained via the cutting tool, and a notifier for notifying a user based on the detection result of the connection failure detector.

Dental treating apparatus with hand piece

A diagnostic imaging apparatus of hand piece type suitable for medical or dental use, comprising a main body held by operator's fingers, a luminous means for irradiating at least one of lights selected from excitation light, infrared light and ultraviolet light, and an imaging means provided in a forward portion of the main body. The imaging means comprises a solid-state image sensing device and an optical means for forming an optical image of a diagnosis object to be examined on the solid-state image sensing device and is so constructed as to output a predetermined diagnostic image information by receiving the light reflected from the diagnosis object and/or the fluorescence generated from the diagnosis object when irradiation of light from the luminous means to the diagnosis object is performed.
