A flask for containing mold sand within it prevents any mold shifting or mold dropping. Each of an upper flaskand a lower flaskincludes a body that defines an opening in which a sand mold is to be molded. The body has at least one inletfor introducing the mold sand into the opening. Two flangesare extended from the body such that they are opposed to each other across the opening. Each flange has a through bore. The flask also includes engaging members for engaging an actuator in the outside of the flask such that a force or forces from said actuator could be transmitted to the flask. An upper flaskand a lower flaskare opposed to each other across a pattern plate. They are integrally assembled to make a flask unit by means of a pair of connecting rodsthat are fitted in each bore.

The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for setting a core, a molding machine, and a method for setting a core where the configuration of the apparatus and the machine is simplified and the accuracy of the core-setting is high. The apparatus is one for setting a core in a molding machine that comprises an upper flask, a lower flask, a match plate clamped between the upper flask and the lower flask, and an upper and a lower squeezing member for forming molding spaces by having the upper and lower squeezing members be inserted into the upper and lower flasks, respectively, wherein a core is set in the lower mold in a state that the upper mold, the lower mold, and the match plate are separate from each other, the apparatus comprising: a jig for a core having a means for holding a core and a rotary shaft and being rotatably supported by the rotary shaft wherein the means for holding a core detachably holds the core at the jig; and a carriage for a core for rotatably supporting the rotary shaft of the jig and being transported to and from a position above the lower mold; wherein an actuator for elevating the match plate transported between the upper flask and lower flask elevates the jig for the core and the carriage for the core that are transported to a position above the lower mold, which actuator is attached to the molding machine.

A molding machine that defines upper and lower mold cavities while cope and drag flasks, having a match plate sandwiched therebetween, are rotated from a horizontal position to a vertical position. An upper squeeze member is insertable into the cope flask. A pressure-applying plane of the upper squeeze member defines an upper mold cavity together with the match plate and the cope flask. A pivoting frame supports the cope and drag flasks, having a match plate sandwiched therebetween, and the upper squeeze member, such that they rotate in unison between a horizontal position to a vertical position. A fixed filling frame abuts the drag flask when the cope and drag flasks are in the vertical position. A lower squeeze member has a pressure-applying plane that is oriented horizontally. The pressure-applying plane of the lower squeeze member defines a lower mold cavity together with the match plate, the drag flask, and the filling frame.

The equipment further includes a squeezing device provided adjacent to the device for introducing molding sand, which squeezing device squeezes the molding sand in the molding flask and the filling frame, and a transfer device for carrying the model plate, the molding flask and the filling frame into and out of both the device for introducing molding sand and the squeezing device.

The method includes the steps of holding a match-plate between one pair of cope and drag flasks that are horizontally positioned, each of them having a sand-filling port for supplying molding sand at its side wall, defining upper and lower molding spaces by inserting upper and lower squeeze-plates in respective openings of the pair of cope and drag flasks which openings are opposed to the match-plate, putting the pair of cope and drag flasks and the match-plate in a vertical position, and causing the sand-filling ports to be placed in an upper position, spraying a release agent into the two upper and lower molding spaces, supplying molding sand through the sand-filling ports to the two upper and lower molding spaces, and squeezing the molding sand in the two upper and lower molding spaces.

A flaskless molding method, wherein a match plate () is held between an upper flask () and a lower flask () and squeeze plates () and () are inserted into the openings of the upper flask () and the lower flask () to form an upper manufacturing space and a lower manufacturing space with initial volumes. A foundry sand is filled in the upper and lower manufacturing spaces with the initial volumes through the supply ports of the flask () and () (first filling). Next, the squeeze plates () and () are retreated to expand the upper and lower manufacturing spaces more than the initial volumes. The foundry sand is filled again in the expanded upper and lower manufacturing spaces through the supply ports (second filling). After the second filling is completed, the squeeze plates () and () are advanced to compress the foundry sand in the upper and lower manufacturing spaces so as to manufacture the upper and the lower flasks stacked on each other.
