A display includes a display substrate having a patterned edge, the patterned edge including a plurality of notches. The display further includes a plurality of display signal lines supported by the display substrate on a first side of the display substrate, and a display control circuit disposed along a second side of the display substrate, the second side being opposite the first side. The display control circuit includes a plurality of contacts. Each display signal line of the plurality of display signal lines is disposed in a respective notch of the plurality of notches to traverse the patterned edge to establish an electrical connection between each display signal line of the plurality of display signal lines and a respective contact of the plurality of contacts.

Display substrate edge patterning and metallization

Described are examples of display devices including a display panel comprised of a transparent layer, a color filter layer adjacent to the transparent layer, wherein the color filter layer comprises a matrix of colored light filters, and a black matrix layer comprising a base portion disposed on the transparent layer between two of the different colored light filters and an extension portion that extends into the color filter layer between the two colored light filters to block a light path that may otherwise traverse both of the two colored light filters. The base portion and the extension portion differ in a height dimension that is substantially perpendicular to the transparent layer.

Black matrix structures for displays devices

Varying electrical currents are selectively applied to each pixel within an OLED display to create desired images. High applied electrical currents to groupings of nearby pixels create high luminance features, while low applied electrical currents to groupings of nearby pixels create low luminance features. A combination of a high luminance and low luminance features may be present on the OLED display. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is often used to increase the current applied to the OLED display by modulating the applied current, particularly when creating low luminance features. The presently disclosed systems and methods detect a gray portion of an image to be presented, and select PWM independently of peak luminance based on the detected gray portion. The allows the OLED display to display low-luminance features at high quality, even when high-luminance features are also present within a frame.

The present disclosure provides devices and techniques for dynamically adjusting the bias voltage (V) levels (e.g., low level gate voltage (VGL) and high level gate voltage (VGH)) for display screens made with thin-film transistor (TFT) technology based on a display run time. Thus, as the positive bias temperature stress for the TFTs increases over the course of the display lifetime, features of the present disclosure adjust the bias voltage levels to maintain operation margin (e.g., the ratio between the high level gate voltage (VGH) value and the voltage value which the display can maintain with normal operation). By dynamically adjusting the bias voltage levels, the TFT displays of the present disclosure consume lower power than their conventional counterparts and improve the lifetime of the display itself.

Techniques for robust reliability operation of a thin-film transistor (TFT) display

While organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display devices are often calibrated upon commissioning to provide similar output colors in response to input signals, they are not calibrated based on varying display content. Significant variation in output color as a function of varying output display content is increasingly unacceptable to users. In an OLED display, an emissive electroluminescent layer selectively emits light in discrete areas in response to an electric current. Higher overall applied electrical currents correspond to higher overall output luminesces, however, as current is increased, attendant voltage generally drops. Variation in attendant voltage causes variation in output color. The presently disclosed display drivers that detect an on-pixel ratio of an input display signal, select a gamma correction factor, apply the selected gamma correction factor, and output a color-corrected display signal to the OLED display address variations in output color as a function of varying output display content.

A display device comprises a chassis and a cover glass substrate. A display unit is positioned between the cover glass substrate and the chassis. The display unit comprises a backlight housing comprising a shelf between the cover glass substrate and a base. A light guide plate is positioned within the backlight housing. A display glass substrate is positioned between the light guide plate and the cover glass substrate, with the display glass substrate bonded to the shelf.

Display device

A graphical display device includes a plurality of color-specific subpixels spatially distributed across a display region. Subpixel wear compensation is performed for some or all of the color-specific subpixels. For each color-specific subpixel, the compensation may include sampling one or more display signals directed to the color-specific subpixel to obtain a time-series of sampled values. The compensation may further include storing, in non-volatile storage, compensation data for the color-specific subpixel derived from the time-series of sampled values. The compensation may further include driving the color-specific subpixel based on the compensation data.

Subpixel wear compensation for graphical displays

A display device comprises a first chassis and a first backlight housing attached to the first chassis and comprising a first wall. A first optical film layer between a first light guide plate and a first rear polarizer comprises a secured end bonded to the first wall. A second chassis is rotatably coupled to the first chassis and includes a second backlight housing attached to the second chassis and comprising a second wall. A second optical film layer between a second light guide plate and a second rear polarizer includes a secured end bonded to the second wall.

A method for optical calibration of a plurality of displays is provided. At a manufacturing stage, a plurality of one-time programmable (OTP) values for each display is created, each OTP value including a value of manufacture gamma voltage corresponding to a manufacture luminance and color value. The OTP values are stored in non-volatile memory of the respective display. At an assembly stage, each display is connected to a respective power management integrated circuit (PMIC); assembly test voltages are applied corresponding to the manufacture gamma voltage of each stored OTP value. Differences between assembly luminance and color values of each display and an expected value as a result of applying each assembly test voltage are measured. For each display, one value of manufacture gamma voltage of a respective OTP value is selected that corresponds to a minimal difference between the assembly luminance and color values and the expected value.

Manufacture and optical calibration methods for displays

The present disclosure provides devices and techniques for correcting misalignment in a multi-display system by identifying a misalignment between a plurality of displays in the multi-display device and determining a line start position of at least one of the plurality of displays in response to identifying the misalignment. The techniques further include transmitting a first line start signal at the line start position of the at least one of the plurality of displays to correct the misalignment.

Multi-display system

An electronic device includes a first digital-to-analog converter (DAC) configured to provide brightness control for a first subset of pixels of a display and a second DAC configured to provide brightness control for a second subset of pixels of the display. A display controller selectively operates the second DAC to provide the brightness control for the second subset of pixels while simultaneously operating the first DAC to provide the brightness control for the first subset of pixels of the display.
