Provided are a separator coating composition, a method of manufacturing a separator using the same, and a separator and a lithium battery using the same. The separator coating composition includes a binder containing an aqueous crosslinking reactive poly(vinylamide)-based copolymer, a crosslinking agent having at least bifunctionality, inorganic particles, and water, wherein the poly(vinylamide)-based copolymer includes a repeating unit derived from a vinylamide monomer and a repeating unit derived from a crosslinking reactive group-containing monomer. The separator coating composition may be used to prepare a separator capable of exhibiting high heat resistance even at a thinner coating thickness.

Provided are a composition for coating a separator, a method of preparing a separator by using the same, a separator, and a lithium battery employing the separator. The composition for coating a separator includes: a polyacrylamide-based copolymer including a cross-linking reactive group; inorganic particles; and water, and the cross-linking reactive group includes at least two functional groups cross-linkable with each other. The composition for coating a separator may be used as a one-component type without a crosslinker, and a separator having high thermal resistance characteristics may be prepared by using the composition.

The adhesive layer includes a particle-type binder having a core-shell structure including a core and a shell surrounding the core, the core includes a first polymer having a glass transition temperature of less than or equal to 30° C., the shell includes a second polymer having a glass transition temperature of greater than or equal to 40° C., and the particle-type binder has a diameter of 50 nm to 500 nm.

This application relates to a separator for a lithium secondary battery, a method for manufacturing a separator for a lithium secondary battery, and a lithium secondary battery including same. The separator includes a porous substrate, a heat resistant layer positioned on at least one surface of the porous substrate and including inorganic particles, and a first adhesive layer positioned on the heat resistant layer and including a first organic polymer. The heat resistant layer includes the inorganic particles of 90 wt % to 99 wt % on the basis of total weight, the thickness of the heat resistant layer is 3.5 μm to 7 μm, and the thickness of the first adhesive layer is 0.5 μm to 3.0 μm.
