Systems and methods for providing high-throughput and reliable operation in WiFi and cellular environments stem in antenna volume-constrained devices employs a switched or multiplexed cellular band antenna to support WiFi MIMO for mobile handheld operation. The device housing may a single, unitary metallic piece having the device antennas formed as part of the housing. Alternatively, one or more antennas may be internal to the device.

RF-antenna architecture in mobile communication devices

The present application provides an antenna system for use in an electronic device. The antenna system includes a conductive housing for the electronic device having a perimeter, which extends around the device. The conductive housing has a plurality of arms formed in the conductive housing at or near the perimeter. The antenna system further includes a conductive substrate, coupled to the conductive housing and located within the perimeter of the conductive housing. The conductive substrate has a notch located proximate the position of one of the plurality of arms in the conductive housing, where each of the plurality of arms respectively couples to the conductive substrate proximate the perimeter, and where the notch causes one of the plurality of arms to couple to the conductive substrate at a point having a different relative distance along the length of the perimeter of the conductive housing. The antenna system still further includes a plurality of signal sources, respectively coupled between the conductive substrate and a corresponding one of the plurality of arms. In at least some or other embodiments a selectable shunt circuit can be used to affect the polarization of the wireless signals associated with one or more of the antenna arms.

The present application is directed to managing values of operating parameters used to communicate via the peripheral communication interface so as to adjust any impact on the wireless communication interface. A corresponding method includes monitoring a performance of a wireless communication via the wireless communication interface, while the wireless communication device is communicating with a coupled peripheral via the peripheral communication interface. A reference power associated with the wireless communication via the wireless communication interface falling below a first predefined threshold is detected. When the reference power which has been detected is below the first predefined threshold, a relative signal quality measurement for the wireless communication via the wireless communication interface is determined for each of a plurality of different sets of values of operating parameters associated with the peripheral communication interface. A selection is then made between each of the determined relative signal quality measurements, which respectively correspond to each of the plurality of different sets of values of operating parameters associated with the peripheral device, and the corresponding set of values of operating parameters associated with the selected determined relative signal quality measurement is applied to the peripheral communication interface.

A system and method of circuit board and device construction provide an RF testing connection for thin devices that lack space between their printed circuit board (PCB) and their housing for a test connection. In particular, in designs wherein the device PCB lies against the rear housing of the device, the use of a dedicated test connector on the back of the main PCB is problematic, but a circuit configuration is provided such that a removable test connection can be used without affecting the operation of the device or the configuration of the PCB itself.

A modular device system is provided having a base portable electronic communication device. The base portable electronic communication device has a display side and a reverse side, and one or more antennas being located along one or more of the device edges. A ground element on the reverse side of the housing is adjacent to the antennas and is grounded to the chassis. A multi-pin connector array on the same side is located adjacent to the ground element and the ground element lies between the connector array and the antennas. The connector array includes multiple pins supporting multiple data speeds, and the high speed data pins are located closer to the array center than the low speed data pins. The array is configured and located to electrically connect to a mating array on a module device when the module device is mated to the base portable electronic communication device.

A method and system selects an antenna for signal propagation within a wireless communication device having multiple antennas. A transfer switch controller identifies an operating mode being initiated on the wireless communication device. The transfer switch controller configures a dynamic transfer switch based on the operating mode initiated to support propagation of each available type of communication signal. In addition, the transfer switch controller utilizes a pre-established priority of each available type of communication signal to select the appropriate antenna. The transfer switch controller communicatively connects, utilizing the configured dynamic transfer switch, each of at least one transceiver associated with the operating mode initiated to a specific antenna, where each transceiver supports propagation of a specific type of communication signal. As a result, the transfer switch controller enables each of the at least one communication signal to be propagated via a specific antenna selected using the configured dynamic transfer switch.

A method and system provides a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna arrangement in a wireless communication device. A first antenna element and a second antenna element co-located within a same antenna volume are respectively coupled to first and second antenna feeds proximate to a base perimeter segment of a device chassis. The first antenna feed is at a pre-calculated distance from the second antenna feed. The second antenna element, a first MIMO antenna, is coupled to an antenna ground positioned proximate to the first antenna feed and at a pre-determined distance from the second antenna feed. A third antenna element operating as a second MIMO antenna is placed proximate to a top perimeter segment of the device chassis. The antenna arrangement achieves (a) low correlation between the MIMO antennas and (b) an acceptable or pre-determined level of antenna isolation between the first antenna element and the second antenna element.

Antenna arrangement for 3G/4G SVLTE and MIMO to enable thin narrow boardered display phones

A method and system configures operating parameters associated with an operation of a connected accessory or second device in order to mitigate harmonic interference within an operating frequency band of a wireless communication device (WCD). In response to a connection between the WCD and the second device via a physical communications interface, Accessory Authentication and Configuration (AAC) logic of the WCD receives device identifying information about the second device. The AAC logic determines candidate values for each operating parameter, based on the device identifying information. The AAC logic dynamically selects a particular candidate value for each operating parameter, based on a current operating frequency band of the WCD, and an expected level of harmonic interference. The AAC logic automatically configures each operating parameter with the corresponding selected candidate value to enable proper operation of the second device while mitigating harmonic interference within the operating frequency band of the WCD.

Method and apparatus to prevent receiver desensitization from radiated HDMI signals in accessor or computing devices

A method, apparatus, and electronic device with mitigated lossy antenna resonance are disclosed. A transceiver chassis may connect to a wireless network. A slider chassis may move relative to the transceiver chassis between an open position and a closed position. A first temporary grounding connection between the slider chassis and the transceiver chassis may connect in a closed position. A second temporary grounding connection between the slider chassis and the transceiver chassis of the slider phone may connect in the open position.

A method and apparatus for internal RF signal transmission between the fixed base portion and the sliding portion of a mobile communication terminal using capacitive coupling are disclosed. The method and apparatus provide internal RF signal transmission when the sliding portion is open (SO) and when the sliding portion is closed (SC). A mobile wireless communication device () having a direct conversion receiver () reduces spurious mixer response by predicting blockers on the received RF signal. The chopping frequency of the mixer is changed () dynamically in response to the prediction of blockers on the input signal to avoid the mixing the blocker with chopper spurs, thereby improving the response of the receiver. In some embodiments, the mixer is disabled momentarily () to verify that poor signal quality results from mixing chopper spurs with blockers. In hopping mode applications, the chopper frequency is changed only on channels having a low confidence factor ().

A receiver has a channel scan mode of operation and a communication mode of operation. In the channel mode of operation, the passband of a filter is narrowed relative to the passband of the filter in the communication mode. According to another aspect of the circuit, a local oscillator is selectively phase locked to an internal clock during channel scanning and locked to the incoming signal during a communication mode operation.
