An electronic device and method are disclosed. The electronic device includes: a battery, a wireless power transfer (WPT) coil, wireless power transceiver circuitry, a charging circuit, and a processor electrically connected to the wireless power transceiver circuitry and the charging circuit. The processor implements the method, including: receiving first detecting power from an external electronic device, determining whether a reception voltage generated by the received first detecting power is higher than a first predetermined voltage value, based on detecting that the reception voltage is higher than the first predetermined voltage value, supplying power from the battery to the wireless power transceiver circuitry, outputting via the WPT coil, foreign object detecting power based on the supplied power, and based on detecting an electrical change in the foreign object detecting power caused by presence of a foreign object, determining that an error has occurred.

Method of detecting foreign object and electronic device

According to an embodiment, a wireless power transmitting device may include a transmission coil, a DC/DC converter configured to output a driving voltage, an inverter configured to output AC power to the transmission coil, and a controller. The controller may be configured to output a first control signal for generating the AC power having a first frequency to the inverter, measure a demodulated voltage generated by demodulating a signal applied to the transmission coil, and output, to the inverter, a second control signal for generating the AC power having a second frequency different from the first frequency, based on a first peak-to-peak value identified in the demodulated voltage being a preset first value or more. The inverter may output the AC power having the second frequency to the transmission coil based on the second control signal. Other various embodiments are possible as well.

Wireless power transmitting device for wirelessly transmitting power, wireless power receiving device for wirelessly receiving power, and operation method thereof

Provided are a wireless charging device and method. The wireless charging device may include: a first group of coils; a second group of coils; and a processor. The processor may be configured to: transmit a first ping signal through the first group of coils and the second group of coils; sense a change in current, voltage, and/or frequency occurring in the first group of coils and the second group of coils in response to the first ping signal to detect that an electronic device is placed on the wireless charging device; select at least one coil from the first group of coils and at least one coil from the second group of coils at which the change is sensed; transmit a second ping signal through the selected coils; and wirelessly transmit power to the electronic device by using the selected coils. Various other embodiments are also disclosed.

A wireless charging device is provided and includes a first inverter, a first switch electrically connected to the first inverter, a second inverter, a second switch electrically connected to the second inverter, a first coil group connected to the first inverter through the first switch, a second coil group connected to the second inverter through the second switch, and a processor operatively connected to the first inverter, the first switch, the second inverter, the second switch, the first coil group, and the second coil group. The processor detects an electronic device disposed above the wireless charging device through at least one coil in the first coil group or the second coil group, and to wirelessly transmit power to the electronic device by using one coil in the first coil group and one coil in the second coil group.

An electronic device includes a housing including a first plate, a second plate spaced apart from the first plate and facing the first plate, and a side member at least partially surrounding a space between the first plate and the second plate, a display located in the space and visible through the first plate, a conductive coil parallel to the second plate and disposed between the display and the second plate, a wireless charging circuit electrically connected to the conductive coil, and a processor operationally connected with the display and the wireless charging circuit. The processor receives a power control signal from an external device, applies a charging current to the conductive coil, based on the power control signal, senses whether a specified event occurs while the charging current is applied, and when the specified event occurs, transmits information for setting a charging power corresponding to the specified event to the external device.
