Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to transcutaneous sound sensors. In at least one embodiment, a transcutaneous sound sensor system comprises a mounting unit and a sound sensor. The mounting unit detachably connects to an electronics unit and mounts to skin on a body. The sound sensor senses sounds originating from inside the body. The sound sensor comprises an in-vivo portion and an ex-vivo portion. The in-vivo portion is configured to be inserted through and placed beneath the skin of the body. In addition, the in-vivo portion has a sound-sensing element configured to produce an electrical signal in response to a mechanical stress or strain on the sound-sensing element. The ex-vivo portion is configured to operably connect to the electronics unit when the electronics unit is connected to the mounting unit.

Transcutaneous sound sensor

A flexible, passive pressure sensor includes three LC tank circuits. The first LC tank circuit is a pressure sensing LC tank circuit, having a capacitance that varies in response to changes in environmental pressure. The second and third LC tank circuits are reference LC tank circuits, having capacitances that are relatively constant over changes in environmental pressure. A measurement tool measures the resonant frequencies of the three LC tank circuits and then computes a pressure measurement that accounts for changes in resonant frequencies in the LC tank circuits due to environmental effects and deforming.

Calibrating passive LC sensor

A flexible passive capacitance pressure sensor includes a first polymeric substrate and a second polymeric substrate. An elastic dielectric sensing material is positioned between the inner-facing surface of the first polymeric substrate and the inner-facing surface of the second polymeric substrate. A first plurality of wires are positioned on the outer-facing surface of said first polymeric substrate, and a second plurality of wires positioned on the outer-facing surface of said second polymeric substrate. The plurality of wires form a flexible capacitor. With the reduced profile enabled by such a capacitor, the flexible passive capacitance pressure sensor can have a thickness of less than 200 microns.

Flexible capacitive pressure sensor

An energy-efficient, wide-band, and compact wireless sensor reader remotely interrogates an implanted wireless inductive-capacitive (LC) sensor in order to measure a physiologic parameter of interest within a human body. The wireless sensor reader generates an instantaneous, spike-shaped, high-amplitude, low-energy pulse to excite the wireless LC sensor, causing it to emit a ring-down signal. The wireless sensor reader subsequently receives, amplifies, and filters the ring-down signal. Next, the wireless sensor reader digitizes the ring-down signal and transfers the digitized ring-down signal to a processing unit. The processing unit computes a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the digitized ring-down signal and then locates the resonant frequency of the LC sensor using a threshold peak detection technique.

Wireless LC sensor reader

A sensor includes two coaxial RF shielding members arranged to create a coaxial RF shielding structure that is electrically open and is formed from partially enclosed cylindrical shells. The RF shielding members are spaced from one another. The sensor also includes one or multiple electrically conductive coaxial coils between the coaxial RF shielding members. This configuration creates an LC circuit without requiring a separate capacitor electrically connected to the inductor. The RF shielding structure minimizes the surrounding tissue effects (e.g., parasitic capacitance), which improves the overall accuracy of the sensor. The LC circuit also can be remotely interrogated by external reader.
