Expression system for enhancing solubility and immunogenicity of recombinant proteins. The expression system includes a protein expression vector that contains a chimeric gene encoding a chimeric protein comprising: (a) a first polypeptidyl fragment at the N-terminal end of the chimeric protein, containing a protein transduction domain (PTD), or a fragment thereof, having HIV Tat PTD activity; (b) a second polypeptidyl fragment at the C-terminal end of the first polypeptidyl fragment, containing a J-domain, or a fragment thereof, having heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70)-interacting activity; and (c) a third polypeptidyl fragment at the C-terminal end of the second polypeptidyl fragment, containing a target protein or polypeptide.

Expression system for enhancing solubility and immunogenicity of recombinant proteins. The expression system includes a protein expression vector that contains a chimeric gene encoding a chimeric protein. The chimeric protein contains three polypeptidyl fragments: (a) a first polypeptidyl fragment at the N-terminal end of the chimeric protein that contains a protein transduction domain (PTD) or a fragment thereof having HIV Tat PTD activity; (b) a second polypeptidyl fragment at the C-terminal end of the first polypeptidyl fragment that contains a J-domain or a fragment thereof having heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70)-interacting activity; and (c) a third polypeptidyl fragment at the C-terminal end of the second polypeptidyl fragment that contains a target protein or polypeptide.

The present invention provides a method of screening pigs to identify those which have a genetic predisposition to have a thinner or thicker backfat thickness by assaying the pattern of the five single nucleotide polymorphisms in the HSP70.2 gene that is associated with backfat thickness.

Genetic markers for pig backfat thickness

The invention provides a transgenic pig having incorporated into its genome a HSP70 gene or fragment thereof, whereby the transgenic pig overexpresses HSP70. The transgenic pig of the invention can be used in the production of HSP in large quantities, as a xenograft source for transplation and as an animal model close to human for illustrating the protective roles of HSP. Furthermore, the transgenic pig of the invention has a better meat quality and exhibits an increased growth rate and a reduced backfat thickness.
