An earpiece having light sources and optical sensors arranged to obtain physiological data from the tragus of an ear. At least one extra light source or optical sensor is provided such that there is redundancy. The redundancy allows for misalignment of the earpiece while still having sufficient number of light sources and optical sensors to continuously obtaining physiological data.

A wearable device suitable for monitoring blood in a body part may be implemented for instance in oximeters for detecting oxygen level in blood, which operates by contrasting the ratio of transmission of visible red light to transmission of infrared light. The ratio of the amount of absorbed red light to the amount of absorbed infrared light indicates the amount of oxygen in the blood. Therefore, in wearable devices having an oximeter function, there may be an emitter emitting red light to the sensor, and an emitter emitting infrared light to the same sensor which is capable of detecting in both ranges of wavelengths. In this case, the red light emitter and the infrared light emitter take turns to emit light.

Device and method suitable for monitoring arterial blood in a body part

A method of monitoring an analyte in blood, particularly glycated-haemoglobin (HbA1c or HgbA1c) using two photoplethysmocharty (PPG) sensors, which are worn on the body of a subject. Each photoplethysmocharty sensor observes blood of the subject in a different wavelength. One of the wavelengths monitors glycated-haemoglobin. The other one of the wavelengths monitors the body of blood in general. The shapes of the pulses obtained by each of the PPG sensor from the subject are used to adjust the intensity of the light emitted by the PPG sensors into the subject. If on adjustment of the light intensity, the shapes of the pulses become similar, the size of the pulses can be used to provide quasi-quantification of the analyte.

Method of selecting the intensity of a light source for monitoring an analyte in blood, and a device thereof

A device having a fingerprint reader and a first heart rate monitor which are co-located such that a person's heart rate is obtained at the same time as this fingerprint. The device is integral to yet another heart rate monitor for monitoring the performance of the person in exercise. The readings of the other heart rate monitor correlates to the readings of the first heart rate monitor if the person whose fingerprint is read is the same person wearing the second heart rate monitor, in which case the fingerprint is deemed acceptable for identifying the person. Other biometric identification besides fingerprint can be used such as iris recognition.

Device for identifying a person and a method thereof

A device for monitoring heart rate or blood oxygen level during exercise is disclosed having sensors () and emitters (), wherein the sensors () are used to monitor transmission from each of the emitters () in turn. This provides a possibility that a smaller device can be provided since less sensors and emitters can be used while obtaining more number of observations. In some embodiments the repeated use of sensors with different emitters introduces redundancy into the device so that the device is more robust and may function even in the event that one or two of the emitters and sensors have broken down.

A wearable device in the form of a tee-shirt is described. A device comprising a piece of planar substrate embedded with two sensors and two emitters. The substrate has a generally planar surface for application onto the wearer's body part. The emitters and sensors are shown to be arranged in such a way that no subset of any two emitters and one sensor, or subset of any two emitters and one sensor, forms a straight line, which prevents the two sensors from detecting the same noise caused by the same wearer movements.

Furthermore, the gait monitoris able to determine if the steps of the user strikes the ground in a heel strike or forefoot strike in order to help the user improve his running efficiency.
