A method of laser bonding glass to metal foil includes contacting a first glass substrate with a first metal foil to create a first contact location; directing a laser beam on the first contact location to bond the first glass substrate to the first metal foil; contacting a second glass substrate with a second metal foil to create a second contact location; and directing the laser beam on the second contact location to bond the second glass substrate to the second metal foil, wherein the first metal foil and the second metal foil each have a thickness from 5 μm to 100 μm, and wherein the laser beam comprises a pulsed laser comprising: a pulse energy from 2.8 μJ to 1000 μJ; and a wavelength such that the first and second glass substrates are substantially transparent to the wavelength.

Systems and methods for spectrometry are disclosed. In some embodiments, the system comprises a Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) comprising a waveguide and a delay element. In some embodiments, the method comprises determining a power spectral density of an input optical signal via the FTS.

A liquid lens system includes a liquid lens and a heating device disposed in, on, or near the liquid lens. The liquid lens system can include a temperature sensor. The heating device can be responsive to a temperature signal generated by the temperature sensor. A camera module can include the liquid lens system. A method of operating a liquid lens includes detecting a temperature of the liquid lens and heating the liquid lens in response to the detected temperature. Various embodiments disclosed herein can reduce, impede, or prevent crosstalk between components of the liquid lens, or the effects thereof.

A method of separating a portion of an object comprising: presenting an object having a thickness; using a laser emission at a wavelength to perforate at least a portion of the thickness of the object sequentially over a length to form a series of perforations between a first portion of the object on one side of the series of perforations and a second portion of the object on the other side of the series of perforations; and applying a stress to the object at the series of perforations to separate the first portion of the object from the second portion of the object, wherein the thickness of the object, at the series of perforations, is transparent to the wavelength of the laser emission.

In a first aspect, a testing assembly for conducting reliability tests on liquid lenses includes a liquid lens, and a test frame arranged to receive the liquid lens. The liquid lens includes a lens body defining a cavity, a first liquid disposed within the cavity, and a second liquid disposed within the cavity that is substantially immiscible with the first liquid such that an interface between the first liquid and the second liquid forms a lens. The test frame includes a front wall, and a back wall oriented substantially parallel to the front wall. The liquid lens mounts to at least one of the front wall or the back wall and the test frame simulates a smart device incorporating a liquid lens.

Devices with liquid lenses and test methods and assemblies for testing devices with liquid lenses

A liquid lens can include a chamber and a first fluid and a second fluid contained in the chamber. The first fluid and the second fluid may be immiscible, forming a fluid interface between the two fluids. The liquid lens may also include a first electrode insulated from the two fluids. The liquid lens may include a second electrode in electrical communication with the first fluid. The liquid lens may be configured such that a position of the fluid interface is based at least in part on voltages applied to the electrodes. The lens may further include a window configured to transmit light therethrough along an optical axis. Further, a flexible member may be configured to cause the window to displace axially along the optical axis to change the volume of the chamber.
