An inbred maize line, designated HMA699ND, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of inbred maize line HMA699ND, to the plants of inbred maize line HMA699ND and to methods for producing a maize plant, either inbred or hybrid, by crossing the inbred line HMA699ND with itself or another maize line. The invention further relates to methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic plants produced by that method and to methods for producing other inbred maize lines derived from the inbred HMA699ND.

The present invention provides grain, seed, feed made from the grain or seed, pet food made from the grain, and food products made from the grain. The grain may be maize grain with the following characteristics: oil burdened, elevated protein content, and low phytate levels. The combination of oil burdened, protein laden, and decreased phytate characteristics in grain makes a grain that provides more calories, protein and phosphorus and other nutrients to the feeding animal. Pet foods, and animal feeds and corn food products made of the present invention will provide increased nutrition because of the increased bioavailability of the components of the grain.

Animal feed with low phytic acid, oil burdened and protein laden grain

This invention relates to a method of producing a starch with unique functionality in plants through mutableness, and/or using biotechnology, and/or breeding practices. Further the invention relates to the starch from maize plants and/or other plants which produce starch storing organs which contain low amylose starch which has an amylose content between 1.5% and 15% and preferably between 1.5% and 10% and most preferably 1.5 and 8%. The invention includes starch extracted from such grain due to at least one mutation induced by ethyl methanesulfonate. Additionally, the invention uses a biotechnology approach involving controlling the activity of the granule bound starch synthase enzyme in starch storing organ. The invention includes the use of the starch for its cooking, paste, and gel properties.

The invention further relates to processes for obtaining such plants, wherein mutant plants are intercrossed to affect starch biosynthesis.

More specifically, the present invention relates to a plant having a genotype which creates new forms of starch in significant quantity. Particularly, the invention relates to grain having an embryo with a genotype heterozygous for two or more wild type genes (for example, Aa/Bb) and an endosperm having a genotype heterozygous for such genes (for example, AAa/BBb or AAa/bbB or aaA/BBb or aaA/bbB) and the starch produced therefrom.
