A method of repairing an integrally bladed rotor (IBR) may comprise: performing a vibratory analysis of a rotor module including a first inspected IBR with a potential repair shape for the IBR; determining an undesirable vibratory characteristic of a second inspected IBR in the rotor module; iterating the potential repair shape for the first IBR to eliminate the undesirable vibratory characteristic of the second inspected IBR; and repairing the first IBR with a selected repair shape based on determining the potential repair shape eliminates the undesirable vibratory characteristic.

Integrally bladed rotor analysis and repair systems and methods

A novel probabilistic method for analyzing high cycle fatigue (HCF) in a design of a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The method may comprise identifying a component of the gas turbine engine for high cycle fatigue analysis, inputting parametric data of the component over a predetermined parameter space into at least one computer processor, using the at least one computer processor to build a plurality of flexible models of the component based on the parametric data of the component over the predetermined parameter space, using the at least one computer processor to build a plurality of emulators of the component based on the plurality of flexible models, and using the at least one computer processor to predict a probability of HCF based at least in part on the parametric data of the component over the predetermined parameter space and the plurality of emulators.

Probabilistic high cycle fatigue (HCF) design optimization process

The Aeroelastic Model using the Principal Shapes of modes (AMPS) is a method used to predict flutter in gas turbine engines. Modern gas turbine engines often include rotors with flexible disks and/or significant blade geometry variations. The AMPS method accounts for the varying blade mode shapes associated with flexible disks as well as changing blade geometry, providing accurate flutter predictions for a large number of modes from a relatively small number of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations. The AMPS method includes determining a smaller set of principal shapes that approximates a larger set of structural modes of interest. Using linear superposition, aerodynamic forces associated with the vibration of the principal shapes can be used to construct the full aerodynamic coupling matrix associated with the structural modes of interest. An eigenvalue equation is solved to determine a damping distribution associated with the structural modes of interest. The damping distribution is predictive of flutter.
