A blood pressure measurement system is configured to perform a calibration automatically when a calibration condition is satisfied. The calibration condition is based upon one or more parameters of pulse waves of a subject. The parameters may include pulse wave area; a time difference between systolic peak and reflected wave peak or dichrotic notch in the pulse wave and a shape of at least a portion of the pulse wave.

Continuous non-invasive blood pressure measurement apparatus and methods providing automatic recalibration

A sensor assembly for monitoring physiological characteristics interfaces to a subject's ear. The sensor assembly has a projection that projects into the subject's concha. The projection may have a notch to accommodate the subject's anti-tragus. A clip connected to the projection holds a sensor against the subject's lobule. The sensor may comprise a pulse-oximetry-type sensor.

Ear sensor assembly

A detachable sensor assembly for use in monitoring a physiological parameter of a subject includes an information containing circuit and a timer. The sensor assembly stores time varying information in the information containing circuit. The information may include cumulative use times for the detachable sensor assembly and/or for components in the detachable sensor assembly.

Physiological parameter monitoring system and sensor assembly for same

Apparatus for monitoring one or more vital signs of a subject has a number of sensors. There is at least one redundant sensor. Each sensor originates a signal. A selection system determines performance criteria for a number of groups of signals. Each group includes one or more signals. The apparatus computes a predicted value for a vital sign by either computing a value from each group of signals and taking a weighted average with weights based upon the performance criterion or by selecting one of the groups of signals for which the performance criterion is best and computing the output value from that group of signals. The output values are relatively insensitive to artifacts and to errors caused by the disconnection or malfunctioning of one sensor.
