Method and apparatus are disclosed for active sound desensitization to tonal noise in a vehicle. An example vehicle includes an electric motor, a microphone, speakers, and an active sound desensitizer. The active sound desensitizer (a) randomizes channels of the speakers based on multiple uncorrelated broadband sound profiles, (b) determine upper and lower frequency band limits for a band-limited filter, (c) generate a desensitizing sound based on the upper and lower frequency band limits and the randomized channels, and (d) broadcast the desensitizing sound via the speakers.

Active sound desensitization to tonal noise in a vehicle

An active noise control (ANC) system includes a speaker and one or more processors. The one or more processors implement an adaptive subband filtered reference control algorithm that applies thresholds to reference and error feedback signal paths such that, in response to a series of broadband non-Gaussian impulsive reference signals indicative of road noise in the vehicle having an audible frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, weight coefficients defining an adaptive filter of the control algorithm converge and permit the ANC system to partially cancel the road noise via output of the speaker.

Subband algorithm with threshold for robust broadband active noise control system

An active noise control (ANC) system includes a speaker and one or more processors programmed to implement a delayless subband filtered-x least mean square control algorithm. The algorithm includes a variable bandwidth discrete Fourier transform filter bank having a number of subbands such that the system, in response to a broadband white noise reference signal indicative of road noise in the vehicle, exhibits a uniform gain spectrum across a frequency range defined by the subbands and partially cancels the road noise via output of the speaker.

Variable bandwidth delayless subband algorithm for broadband active noise control system

A control system provides centralized active noise control (ANC) and active vibration control (AVC) through a digital network. The control system includes a controller, an audio sub-system, and a vibration sub-system. The audio-sub system includes at least one sound monitoring component and at least one sound outputting component. The vibration sub-system includes at least one vibration monitoring component and at least one vibration actuating component. The controller and the sub-systems are interconnected through the digital network. The controller controls the sub-systems through the digital network to perform the ANC and AVC functions in a holistic approach.

Control system having active noise and vibration centralized control through digital network

A multiple error filtered-x least mean square (MEFxLMS) algorithm using a channel equalization virtual secondary path for an active noise control/cancellation (ANC) system for treating noise in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. The channel equalization technique equalizes amplitude levels of the estimated response of all primary channels to overcome limitations caused by the frequency dependent property of standard filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm, reduce the variation of convergence speed existed in the multiple channels, and improve the overall performance of the control system. The convergence property of the algorithm is analyzed in the frequency domain.

Multi-channel active noise control system with channel equalization

An apparatus and method for customizing the sound emitted from an automotive vehicle during operation. Specifically, the vehicle operator uses a controller to vary the sound emitted from the engine exhaust and intake or engine compartment sounds during vehicle operation. In addition, the operator can control the sound level, sound type and sound aspect in the vehicle interior or passenger compartment and the vehicle exterior. Further, the apparatus uses an active sound control system, such as those using microphones and speakers, to customize and/or tune the sound emanating from the vehicle.

Method and apparatus for selectively varying motor vehicle sounds

Vehicle model rattle detection method and system process vibration displacement data of elements of a vehicle CAE model to predict rattle of the vehicle. The rattle detection method and system includes dividing a vehicle model into a plurality of elements and grids. The displacement data for each element as a function of vibration is then provided. The element-grid pairs which contact due to vibration are then determined using the displacement data. Contact velocity for each contacting element-grid pair due to vibration is then estimated. Rattle for each contacting element pair as a function of contact velocity is then determined. The displacement data includes magnitude data and phase data for each element as a function of vibration over time. A rattle index for each contacting element pair is generated, the rattle index is indicative of rattle severity.
