An electrical contact for use with an electrical connector includes a conducting part and a supporting part wherein the conducting part has a better conduction characteristic than the supporting part while the supporting part has a better resiliency/strength characteristic than the conducting part. The conducting part includes a main body, an upper contacting arm extending upwardly from the main body and a lower contacting arm extending downwardly from the main body. The supporting part includes a secondary body, an upper supporting arm upwardly extending from the secondary body and a lower supporting arm downwardly extend from the secondary body. The main body and the secondary body are engaged together securely. The end of the upper contacting arm and that of the upper supporting arm are coupled together and the end of the lower contacting arm and that of the lower supporting arm are coupled together.

A method of making an electrical connector includes steps of providing an insulative housing with a plurality of passageways; providing a plurality of contacts associated with corresponding carriers unitarily formed thereon, respectively; providing an external fixture discrete from the carriers; retaining the carriers on the external fixture; downwardly moving the external fixture to insert the contacts into the corresponding passageways to reach their final positions in the vertical direction, simultaneously; and removing the carriers from the corresponding contacts, respectively.

An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector and a CPU. The electrical connector includes an insulative housing defining a receiving cavity, and a plurality of contacts retained to the housing with corresponding contacting sections exposed in the receiving cavity. A first securing piece is attached upon the CPU, and a second securing piece is attached upon the housing. When the CPU is received within the receiving cavity, the first securing piece is locked with the second securing piece so as to have the CPU retained to the connector in position wherein the corresponding contacts of the electrical connector are mechanically and electrically connected to the corresponding contacting pads of the CPU in a compression manner reliably.

A CPU socket has an insulative housing equipped with two groups of contacts of different pitches from each other wherein either each group of contacts are arranged with the corresponding contacting arms extending in opposite directions to counterbalance the imposed/reaction forces itself or the two group of contacts are arranged with the corresponding contacting arms extending in opposite direction to somewhat counterbalance the imposed/reaction force during receiving a CPU therein, and or in a mixed manner, i.e., one group of contact with the corresponding contacting arms in the same direction while the other of contacts with the corresponding contacting arms extending in both opposite directions to achieve the total reaction forces in a substantial balanced manner.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing with a plurality of contacts retained therein in matrix wherein all the contacts are of the cantilevered spring arm type for connecting to the conductive pads of the CPU while categorized with at least two different types for performing different functions, i.e., signal transmission or power delivery. The different type may be related to the corresponding dimension/thickness, the configuration/position, the material, and the processing method which alters the mechanical or electrical characters of the contacts, etc. The different type contacts having the contact points initially at different heights while eventually at the same height, is another feature of the invention.

A receptacle connector includes: a housing including a base and a mating tongue in front of the base, the mating tongue defining a thickened portion at a root to the base, the mating tongue defining a pair of lateral locking sides; two rows of contacts with contacting section exposing to opposite surfaces of the mating tongue in front of the thickened portion and tail sections extending out of the base; and a metallic shield retained on the base and surrounding the mating tongue to define a mating cavity among the shield and the mating tongue. The shield is formed via a deep drawing process.

An electrical connector assembly comprising a first connector and a second connector mated with each other. The first connector includes a first shell forming a first mating surface thereon. A retractable first contact has a first contacting section moveable between an outer position coplanar with the first mating surface and an inner position recessed from the first mating surface. The second connector includes a second shell forming a second mating surface thereon. A stationary second contact has a second contacting section protruding beyond the second mating surface. During mating, the second contacting section abuts against the first contacting section in the mating direction and protrudes beyond the first mating surface to be snugly received within the first connector.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing and a plurality of signal and ground contacts retained in the housing. The housing forms opposite mating surface and mounting surface, and a plurality of signal contact passageways and ground contact passageways extending therethrough to receive the signal contacts and ground contacts therein. All the mating surface, the mounting surface and the set of interior surfaces of each signal contact passageway and each ground contact passageway are plated/coated with corresponding metal layers while some dividing structures are formed on the mating surface and the mounting surface so as to electrically separate the metal layers of the signal contact passageways from those of the ground contact passageways.

A receptacle connector includes an insulating housing including a base and a mating tongue extending from the base and the mating tongue defining a thicken step portion at a root near to the base, two rows of contacts with contacting section exposing to opposite surfaces of the mating tongue in front of the step portion and tail sections extending out of the base, and a pair of separate metallic collars respectively disposed upon the opposite surface of the step portion. Two opposite ends of each metallic collar are embedded in the step portion of the insulating housing via an inserting mold process.

The insulative housing includes a base and a mating tongue extending forwardly therefrom. The mating tongue includes two opposite mating faces and two opposite side faces. An electrical connector comprising a first terminal assembly and a second terminal assembly which are formed on a same metal material. The first and the second terminal assemblies respectively comprise a plurality of first and second conductive terminals. The plurality of first and second conductive terminals respectively connect with each other by a first contact carrier and a second contact carrier which are connected by a third contact carrier formed on the metal material. Bending the third contact carrier at 180 degrees such that the first and the second terminal assemblies are arranged in parallel and up-and-down to each other. Providing an insulating material injecting molding on the first and the second terminal assemblies to form an insulating housing. Cutting and dislodging the first, the second and the third contact carriers to forming the electrical connector. The electrical connector is simple in manufacture and low in production cost.

A method of making a receptacle connector includes: Step 1: providing an upper terminal module making via a first inserting molded process; Step 2: providing an lower terminal module making via another first inserting molded process; Step 3: stacking the upper and lower terminal modules together in a vertical direction so as to provide a main basis; Step 4: applied an insulative filler on the main basis via a second insert molding process, wherein the insulative filler fills and completes the front tongues of the upper and lower terminal module thereby forming a mating tongue for inserting a plug connector.

A plug connector includes a mating tongue defining top and bottom surfaces thereon. Each surface is provided with a plurality of conductors in one row wherein the characters/categories of the conductors on the top surface are sequentially arranged to be same with those on the bottom surface with a pair of power conductors in two notches at two lateral side edges. The corresponding receptacle connector mounted upon a printed circuit board, defines a receiving cavity to receive the mating tongue therein. A plug connector mateable with the receptacle connector, includes an insulative housing enclosed in a metallic shell, defining a receiving cavity to receive the mating tongue, and equipped with a plurality of contacts on opposite sides in the vertical direction. A latch forms a pair of locking heads extending into two opposite lateral sides of the receiving cavity to lock with a shielding plate embedded within a mating tongue of the complementary receptacle connector during mating.
