Methods and systems for thermal management of hardware resources that may be used to provide computer implemented services are disclosed. The disclosed thermal management method and systems may improve the likelihood of data processing systems providing desired computer implemented services by improving the thermal management of the hardware resources without impairment of storage devices. To improve the likelihood of the computer implemented services being provided, the systems may proactively identify whether storage devices subject to impairment due to dynamic motion are present. If such storage devices are present, then the system may automatically take action to reduce the likelihood of the storage devices being subject to dynamic motion sufficient to impair their operation.

System and method for thermal management of motion sensitive systems

A riser of an information handling system having an adjustable baffle that blocks air flowing through the riser from by-passing components of an expansion card, such as a PCIe card, installed in the riser. The baffle directs the flowing air across components of the expansion card to lower the operating temperature of the expansion card by convection. In some embodiments, part of the baffle is coupled to an angled slot of the riser body and another part of the baffle is coupled to a card holder so that movement of the card holder automatically adjusts the position of the baffle to direct otherwise by-passing air toward the components of the installed expansion card.

An information handling system may include a chassis having a first region and a second region, wherein the first region includes a memory module, and wherein the second region includes a processing unit; at least one air mover configured to provide airflow; and an airflow shroud including an airflow baffle. When the airflow shroud is installed in the information handling system in a first orientation, the airflow baffle may be configured to block at least a portion of the airflow from flowing through the first region. When the airflow shroud is installed in the information handling system in a second orientation, the airflow baffle may be configured to block at least a portion of the airflow from flowing through the second region.

A fan noise cancellation device comprises a base with a resonant ring formed with a plurality of resonance channels and a cover coupled to the base. Each resonance channel comprises an inner channel and an outer channel. Each inner channel has an opening to the resonant ring and has a length corresponding to a frequency. A baffle positioned in each inner channel determines an effective length of the inner channel. The inner channel baffles are coupled to the cover, wherein rotation of the cover relative to the resonance ring changes the position of the inner channel baffles to change the effective lengths of the inner channels to adjust the fan noise cancellation waveform frequency. Vanes on the cover are positioned in an airflow such that the airflow rotates the cover, and a spring in each resonance channel counteracts the rotation to adjust the inner channels.

System and method for fan noise canceller

A method for controlling a fan is described and includes controlling a rotation speed of a fan according to a first rotation speed time-variable rate by a controller, and controlling the rotation speed of the fan according to a second rotation speed time-variable rate by the controller in response to a change in an operating parameter of a target device, where the fan and target device are for use in a computer system.

Fan control of a computer system based on power ratio

A fan control system for a computer system is provided. The computer system includes a fan and a target device. The fan control system includes a controller to control the rotation speed of the fan. The controller determines a time-variable rate of the rotation speed according to an operating parameter of the target device. Particularly, the controller determines the time-variable rate of the rotation speed according to a ratio of the consumed power to the rated power of the target device. Alternatively, the controller can determine the rotation speed according to the ratio of the consumed power to the rated power of the target device.

A fan control method for an information handling system is provided. The information handling system includes a device area and a fan for providing air flow to the device area. A plurality of devices is installed on the device area. The method includes the steps of: collecting thermal data of installed devices in the device area when booting up the information handling system; determining a threshold power of the installed devices and a discreteness level of the installed devices based on the thermal data; adjusting an initial speed of the fan based on the discreteness level; and calibrating the speed of the fan to obtain an optimized speed thereof based on the threshold power and the adjusted initial speed. A fan control apparatus for an information handling system is further provided.
