A mixture of an anionic surfactant and an amine is injected into a high permeability zone of a subterranean formation. Gaseous COis injected through the wellbore into the high permeability zone to increase the viscosity of the injected mixture to prevent gravity override of the injected CO. After increasing the viscosity of the mixture, COis injected through the wellbore into a low permeability zone to recover the hydrocarbons.

Enhanced oil recovery

A system and method of testing pre-formed particle gels in an artificial fracture system includes introducing a suspension including a pre-formed particle gel into a testing device that includes an artificial fracture setup with a plurality of fracture model units. The system is configured to inject pre-formed particle gels into an accumulator with magnetic stirrers first and then into a series of fracture model units configured to receive a fluid through a flow channel and, change the flow channel in a transverse direction relative to the direction of the fluid flow.

A sand prevention system includes a housing having a conduit and a plurality of sand crushers coupled to the housing that prevent sand particles disposed within a fluid of a well having a diameter greater than a specified diameter from passing through the conduit of the housing of the sand prevention system. Each sand crusher includes a casing and a plurality of crushing elements encased within the casing that reduce the diameter of the sand particles. The sand prevention system further includes a sensor module, fixed within the housing, that includes a plurality of sensors that detect a presence of sand particles within the fluid and a transmitter that notifies a surface location of the well of the presence of the sand particles within the fluid.

A flow path is formed through the first and second flanged stoppers and interfaces at opposite end surfaces of the core sample. Also provided are an assembly and a system comprising the removable apparatus for use in oilfield applications. The method includes performing a coreflooding study using a core flood apparatus. The coreflooding study includes a plurality of coreflooding simulations using the core sample disposed in the core flood apparatus. The method includes performing a reservoir simulation study on the first reservoir using a coreflooding simulation model and using the coreflooding study. The method includes adjusting a core flood fluid based on the reservoir simulation study to form an adjusted treatment fluid that produces a second recovery rate from the first reservoir. The second recovery rate may be greater than the first recovery rate. The method includes using an injection well and the adjusted treatment fluid for performing an injection operation of a reservoir.

The surfactants include a quaternary amine and a saturated or unsaturated alkyl chain with 4 to 28 carbons. The surfactants can be generated by reacting a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group and an epihalohydrin in the presence of a base. The cationic surfactants can be generated by reacting a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group, an epihalohydrin, and a carboxylic acid. The cationic surfactants can be generated by reacting a carboxylic acid, an epihalohydrin, and a catalyst to afford a halo-substituted alkyl ester, followed by reacting the halo-substituted alky ester with a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group.

The present disclosure relates to methods for treating a water zone of a subterranean formation by injecting a mixture including an anionic surfactant and an amine, followed by CO, to reduce water production from the formation.

Treatment of subterranean formations

The systems and method described in this specification relate to at least partially restoring porosity and brine permeability of carbonate core samples. The systems and methods include extracting a carbonate core sample from a subterranean formation. The extracted carbonate core sample is inserted into a core flooding test machine. A first porosity and a first brine permeability of the extracted carbonate core sample is measured. A fluid is pumped through the extracted carbonate core sample to flood the carbonate core sample. The fluid includes at least one of a high-molecular weight polymer solution and a gel particle solution. The systems and methods include at least partially restoring the porosity and the brine permeability of the carbonate core sample by pumping an oxidizing solution through the flooded carbonate core sample and heating the carbonate core sample to a temperature of at least 60° C. after pumping the oxidizing solution through the carbonate core sample.

A method for enhanced oil recovery in a reservoir is provided. The method includes injecting a microsphere suspension, including polymeric microspheres dispersed in seawater, into an injection well in the reservoir and injecting a low salinity tailored water (SmartWater) into the injection well in the reservoir. Oil is produced from a production well in the reservoir.

A method and a system for oil recovery are provided. An exemplary method includes injecting thickened carbon dioxide (CO) into the top of a reservoir containing oil. An interface is formed between the thickened COand the oil. The oil is mobilized by the thickened CO. The mobilized oil is recovered with a recovery well drilled below the reservoir.
