Display devices and related methods involving patterned phase retarding are provided. A representative display device includes: a backlight unit, having a light source and a color conversion layer having an alignment direction, the light comprising a first light exhibiting a first upstream polarization ratio, a second light exhibiting a second upstream polarization ratio, and a third light exhibiting a third upstream polarization ratio; and a patterned phase retarder positioned to receive the light, having a plurality of half-wave regions to alter polarization of light passing therethrough, and a plurality of free regions to pass light without altering the polarization; wherein polarization ratio (PR) is defined by PR=(I&#x2212;I)/(I+I); and wherein the first upstream polarization ratio exhibits a first sign, and both the second upstream polarization ratio and the third upstream polarization ratio exhibit a second sign opposite the first sign.

Display devices and related methods involving patterned phase retarding

A pixel structure disposed on a substrate including a scan line, a data line, an active element, a first electrode, and a second electrode is provided. The scan line and the data line are intersected to define a rectangular pixel area. The active element is electrically connected to the scan line and the data line. The first electrode has stripe patterns and connecting patterns located in the rectangular pixel area. Each connecting pattern is connected to the central parts or the parts near the central parts of two adjacent stripe patterns to demarcate or define two silts between the two adjacent stripe patterns. The extending direction of the slits is intersected to the rectangle length of the rectangular pixel area by an angle &#x3b8; wherein 0&#xb0;&#x2266;&#x3b8;&#x3c;45&#xb0;. The second electrode is located between the first electrode and the substrate and part of the second electrode is exposed by the slits.

Pixel structure, touch display panel and liquid crystal display

A display panel including a first plate, a second plate, and a spacer and a display medium between the first plate and the second plate is provided. The first plate has a first substrate, a scan line and a data line on the first substrate, an active device electrically connected to the scan line and the data line, a pixel electrode electrically connected to the active device, and a first common electrode electrically insulated from the pixel electrode and alternatively arranged with the pixel electrode. The second plate has a second substrate, a second common electrode on the second substrate and disposed corresponding to the first common electrode of the first plate, and a floating electrode electrically insulated from the second common electrode and disposed corresponding to the pixel electrode of the first plate.

Display panel

A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a polymer stabilized alignment (PSA) liquid crystal layer, a first alignment layer, a second alignment layer, and a plurality of pixel structures. The PSA liquid crystal layer is configured between the first and second substrates, and liquid crystal molecules of the PSA liquid crystal layer are substantially arranged in parallel to the first and second substrates. The first alignment layer is configured between the first substrate and the PSA liquid crystal layer and has a first alignment direction. The second alignment layer is configured between the second substrate and the PSA liquid crystal layer. Each pixel structure is configured between the second substrate and the second alignment layer and has a pixel electrode and a first common electrode. The pixel electrode has at least one slit which is overlapped with the first common electrode.
