An antenna device includes a flat base body and a flat conductive body which is disposed on the base body and which has a polygonal shape such that a lower side opposed to a ground is shorter than an upper side. The conductive body includes a feeding point on the lower side and a slit which comprises an open end on the lower side in a vicinity of the feeding point. The slit includes a first slit portion which extends from the open end, a second slit portion which extends from an end of the first slit portion such that the second slit portion is turned to a perpendicular direction with respect to the first slit portion, and a third slit portion which extends from an end of the second slit portion such that the third slit portion is turned to a perpendicular direction with respect to the second slit portion.

A multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna module, comprising a first signal feed port coupled to a first antenna element disposed along a first edge of a PCB, a second signal feed port coupled to a second antenna element disposed on the PCB and a transceiver operable to be selectively coupled to either or both of the first and second signal feed ports. The first and second antenna elements form a plurality of antenna elements confined to a peripheral section surrounding a central region of the PCB of the MIMO antenna module.

Multiple input multiple output antenna module and associated method

A mobile wireless communications device includes a wireless transceiver, and a reconfigurable antenna coupled to the wireless transceiver. The reconfigurable antenna has a dielectric substrate, with a plurality of electrical conductors on the dielectric substrate laterally adjacent the ground plane and arranged in a series of spaced apart antenna loops with each successive outer antenna loop surrounding an adjacent inner loop, each antenna loop having a pair of endpoints. A plurality of switches are associated with respective endpoints of the antenna loops. A processor is adapted to reconfigure the reconfigurable antenna and couple the wireless transceiver thereto via the plurality of switches.

Mobile device having reconfigurable antenna and associated methods

Embodiments of the disclosure provide systems and methods for improving user equipment performance by implementing antenna selection based on measurement of performance parameters of a plurality of antennas. In some embodiments, the antenna parameter measurements comprise radiated power. In other embodiments, the antenna parameter measurements comprise reflected power. In various embodiments, the antenna parameter measurements may be based on data from sensors that are operable to detect operational characteristics of the plurality of antennas based on the proximity of a portion of a user's body to the sensors. The antenna parameter measurements are then used to select one of the antennas within the plurality of antennas for transmitting and receiving data signals by a wireless communication device.

Dynamic antenna selection based on user hand position

A multiple input-multiple output antenna assembly with high isolation between the antennas is disclosed. The antenna assembly includes a substrate with a ground layer at its surface. Two antennas are disposed opposing each other on the substrate. An isolation element in a form of a patterned slot is interposed between the first and second antennas on the ground plane. A first signal port is provided for applying a first signal to excite the first antenna and a second signal port is provided for applying a second signal to excite the second antenna. The isolation element provides isolation that inhibits electromagnetic propagation between the two antennas.

A broadband monopole antenna with dual-radiating elements is provided. In one embodiment, an antenna comprises a ground plane; a first radiating structure having a symmetric configuration along a central axis, comprising a first feed point electrically connected to the base of said first radiating structure along said central axis and a first slot with a corresponding first open-ended strip along said central axis; and a second radiating structure conjoined with said first radiating structure having a symmetric configuration along said central axis, comprising a second feed point electrically connected to the base of said second radiating structure along said central axis and a second slot with a corresponding second open-ended strip along said central axis; and wherein the antenna resonates and operates at a plurality of resonant frequencies.

Broadband monopole antenna with dual radiating structures

A multiple antenna assembly with high isolation between the antennas is disclosed. The assembly includes a dielectric substrate with a ground plane and first and second antennas thereon. One or more metal-dielectric isolation structures are on the substrate at locations at which an electric current is present that has a current density greater than a predefined threshold. Each metal-dielectric isolation structure resonates at a given frequency that inhibits mutual signal coupling between the first and second antennas. Various configurations, such as concentric ring patterns, for the metal-dielectric isolation structures are disclosed. A device can be provided to dynamically tune the given frequency of the metal-dielectric isolation structures to correspond to radio frequency signals emitted by the first and second antennas.

Multiple antenna assembly utilizing electro band gap isolation structures

An antenna assembly for a wireless communication device includes a substrate of dielectric material that has opposing first and second surfaces. A ground plane formed by a layer of electrically conductive material on the first surface. An antenna with a physical length is disposed on the substrate. At least one metal-dielectric structure is disposed on the substrate. The metal-dielectric structures resonate so as to interact with the antenna and thereby alter the effective electrical length of the antenna. That interaction causes the antenna to function as though it had a greater physical length. In one embodiment, that interaction enables an antenna, that is shorter than one-fourth the wavelength of a radio frequency signal applied thereto, to function as through the physical length of the antenna was one-fourth that wavelength.

Antenna assembly utilizing metal-dielectric structures

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a substrate carried by the portable housing, and wireless communications circuitry carried by the substrate. The mobile wireless communications device may also include at least one an antenna assembly carried by the substrate and coupled to the wireless communications circuitry. The at least one antenna assembly may include an electrically conductive base conductor having a first rectangular base portion and a second rectangular base portion offset therefrom. The first and second base portions may be coupled at respective diagonally opposing corners thereof and having an antenna feed defined along an outer portion of one of the first and second rectangular base portions. The at least one antenna assembly may include at least one electrically conductive arm extending along at least one side of one of the first and second rectangular base portions and spaced apart therefrom.

An wireless communication device has a housing with an exterior surface that is designed to face a user when the wireless communication device is transmitting a radio frequency signal. The communication device includes an antenna disposed inside the housing for emitting a radio frequency signal. A metal-dielectric structure resonates to reflect the radio frequency signal. The metal-dielectric structure is located between the antenna and the exterior surface at a position wherein he metal-dielectric structure traps and reflects the radio frequency signal thereby reducing a specific absorption rate of the wireless communication device.

A multiple input-multiple output antenna assembly with high isolation between the antennas is disclosed. The antenna assembly includes a substrate with a ground layer at its surface. Two antennas are disposed opposing each other on the substrate. A meandering slot is interposed between the first and second antennas on the ground plane. A first signal port is provided for applying a first signal to excite the first antenna and a second signal port is provided for applying a second signal to excite the second antenna. The meandering slot provides isolation that inhibits electromagnetic propagation between the first and second antennas. A third signal port is provided for applying a third signal to excite the meandering slot to act as another antenna for multiple input, multiple output operation.
