A backlight assembly includes a light source generating light and a first optical member diffusing the light. The first optical member includes a first diffusion member provided on an exit surface of the first optical member, from which the light exits, to diffuse the light. The first diffusion member includes a plurality of edges each having a curved shape and extending between the exit surface and a vertex of the first diffusion member. Accordingly, the light exiting through the exit surface is effectively diffused by the edges of the first diffusion member.

Backlight assembly and display apparatus having the same

An optical plate includes a planar base and a plurality of rounded prisms formed on the planar base. The rounded prisms improve a uniformity of the light passing through the planar base and then irradiate the light having the improved uniformity. A concave peak formed in each of the plurality of rounded prisms of the optical plate scatters the light provided into a rear face of the optical plate so that dark lines and bright lines are not generated on the optical plate. As a result, the optical plate has improved light efficiency.

A backlight assembly includes an optical member that diffuses light generated from lamps. The optical member includes first and second diffusion members that are designed to have light transmittance that complementarily vary according to areas. The plurality of first projections is disposed on the emitting surface of the body and has a trapezoidal shape in a section perpendicular to the incident surface. The plurality of second projections is disposed on the emitting surface of the body and has a shape symmetrical to a shape of the first projections.

An optical sheet includes a base layer, a light-condensing layer and a plurality of light-reflecting portions. The light-condensing layer includes a plurality of light-condensing portions formed on a second surface of the base layer along a first direction extending from a first side surface to a second side surface perpendicular to the first side surface. The light-condensing portions extended in a second direction crossing the first direction at an angle with respect to the side surface. The light-reflecting portions are formed in the first surface along the second direction and corresponding to a plurality of recesses where the light-condensing portions meet each other. A clock generator includes a controller, a digital phase locked loop (PLL) circuit, a charge pump phase locked loop (PLL) circuit and a divider. The controller generates a division factor and a first internal clock signal in response to a low-frequency reference clock signal and a multiplication factor. The digital PLL circuit generates a second internal clock signal in response to the reference clock signal, the division factor and the first internal clock signal. The charge pump PLL circuit generates a plurality of third internal clock signals by using the second internal clock signal. A light-guide plate includes a base plate, first protrusion patterns and second protrusion patterns. The first protrusion patterns are formed on a left portion of an upper surface of the base plate with respect to a central line of the upper surface. The first protrusion patterns have a cross-section of a trapezoidal shape which has a top and a bottom parallel with each other and first and second inclined sides inclined at different angles with respect to the bottom side. The second protrusion patterns are formed on a right portion of the upper surface with respect to the central line. A cross-section of the second protrusion patterns have the trapezoidal shape and disposed substantially symmetrical to the first protrusion patterns with respect to the central line.

A backlight assembly and a display apparatus having the backlight assembly are disclosed. A diffusion plate is provided above a plurality of lamps. Diffusion patterns that cause contrast inversion and diffusion patterns that do not cause contrast inversion are arranged on a surface of a diffusion plate, in an alternating manner along a longitudinal direction of the lamps. Thus, a brightness difference between a first area in which the lamps are positioned and a second area between two adjacent lamps is reduced, thereby improving a brightness uniformity of light from the backlight assembly.

An optical sheet includes a base layer, a light-condensing layer and a plurality of light-reflecting portions. The base layer includes a first surface and a second surface. The light-condensing layer includes a plurality of light-condensing portions with a first pitch. The light-condensing portions are formed along a first direction of the second surface. The light-reflecting portions are formed in the first surface to be spaced apart from each other along the -first direction in correspondence with a plurality of grooves, each groove formed between two light-condensing portions. An interval distance between a center of the light-condensing portion and an edge of the light-reflecting portion increases when moving toward the edge of the first surface from a center of the first surface along the first direction. Therefore, the number of the optical sheets used for the display device may be reduced.

Optical sheet and display device having the same

A diffusion plate that is capable of improving a display quality, and a backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display ('LCD') including the same are disclosed. The diffusion plate includes a base layer including of a first optically transparent resin and a first coating layer provided on a first surface of the base layer. The first coating layer includes a second optically transparent resin and random embossings. The first surface including the embossings has a 60&#xb0; gloss of 15% or less. A method of forming a diffusion plate includes forming a base layer including a first optically transparent resin, providing random embossings on the base layer and sizing the diffusion plate to predetermined dimensions.
