A method for computing a natural logarithm function includes partitioning a mantissa region between 1 and 2 into N equally spaced sub-regions; precomputing a reference point aof each of the N equally spaced sub-regions, where i=0, . . . ,N&#x2212;1; selecting N sufficiently large so that, within each sub-region, a first degree polynomial in m computes log(m) to within a preselected degree of accuracy for any m within the sub-region, where m is a mantissa of a binary floating point representation of a variable x; and computing a value of log(x) for a binary floating point representation of x stored in a memory of a computing device utilizing the first degree polynomial in m.

Method and apparatus for fast natural log(X) calculation

The present invention comprises a system and method for correcting for z-slope variations in detector cell outputs represented by data obtained by a scan in a CT system. According to one aspect of the invention, a final error factor, based upon a combination of a correction factor and an initial error factor, is applied to the data. The correction factor having a computational complexity independent of the order of correction desired. The present invention transfers all of the computational complexity of z-slope correction to a calibration process, thereby improving the computational speed and efficiency of producing an accurate image based on the scan data. In another aspect, the present invention improves image quality by providing a correction factor comprising a plurality of channel correction factors, where each of the plurality of channels is the center channel for a corresponding moving segment used to respectively determine each of the channel correction factors.

Higher order detector z-slope correction for a multislice computed tomography system

The present invention, in one form, is a system which, in one embodiment, improves the signal to noise of a scout image by aligning projection data in a z-axis. More specifically, by altering a table speed, a data acquisition system sampling rate, and a delay factor, the projection data collected from a detector array is aligned in the z-axis so that an improved scout image is generated. Particularly, and in one embodiment, the delay factor is adjusted so that the misalignment of the projection data collected from the detector is minimized.

Methods and apparatus for generating a scout image

A CT Fluoro system having an architecture and algorithms which facilitate increasing the frame rate and providing acceptable image quality is described. Generally, and in one embodiment, the system includes apparatus and algorithms that speed-up image reconstruction and reduce image artifacts that may result from such fast reconstruction. The fast reconstruction is achieved by performing, for example, view compression, channel compression, backprojection with reduced delay, and parallel processing.
