An apparatus for vital sign extraction. The apparatus may receive a vital signal of a subject from a sensing device. The apparatus may also perform a preprocessing procedure on the vital signal via bandpass filtering and normalization to obtain a preprocessed signal. The apparatus may also perform a time-frequency analysis of the preprocessed signal, and estimate a heart rate of the subject from a dominant component of the preprocessed signal by finding location of a maximum spectral energy of the time-frequency analysis. In addition, the apparatus may identify guard components in the preprocessed signal in view of the dominant component, and derive a respiratory rate of the subject from a length of an interval between the dominant component and each of the guard components.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program for reconstructing electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms from photoplethysmogram (PPG). A method for cardiovascular monitoring and analytics may include obtaining an electrical signal of a heart. The method may also include obtaining a circulatory signal related to a pulsatile volume of blood in tissue. The method may also include preprocessing the electrical signal and the circulatory signal. The method may further include training a mapping using the preprocessed electrical signal and circulatory signal. In one example, a described system comprises: a transmitter configured to transmit a radio signal through a wireless channel of a venue; a receiver configured to receive the radio signal through the wireless channel, wherein the wireless channel is impacted by a voice activity of a target voice source in the venue; and a processor. The processor is configured for: computing a time series of channel information (CI) of the wireless channel based on the radio signal, and detecting the voice activity of the target voice source based on the time series of CI (TSCI) of the wireless channel, without using any media signal.

The method may also include generating the color signals by estimating a skin color for each frame by taking a spatial average over pixels of a cheek of the face(s) for R, G, and B channels, respectively, applying an operation to remove remaining motion traces from the frames such that the heart rate traces dominate, and extracting and/or outputting the heart rate of the individuals using a frequency estimator of the skin color signals.

A method may include tracking at least one candidate frequency trace from a time-frequency representation of a signal. A confidentiality preserving system and method for performing a rank-ordered search and retrieval of contents of a data collection. The system includes at least one computer system including a search and retrieval algorithm using term frequency and/or similar features for rank-ordering selective contents of the data collection, and enabling secure retrieval of the selective contents based on the rank-order. In one embodiment, a described sleep monitoring system comprises: at least one sensor in a venue, wherein the at least one sensor comprises a wireless non-contact sensor having no physical contact with the user; a processor communicatively coupled to the at least one sensor; a memory communicatively coupled to the processor; and a set of instructions stored in the memory. The set of instructions, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to perform: obtaining, based on the at least one sensor, a plurality of time series of sensing features (TSSF) associated with a sleep motion of a user in the venue, and monitoring the sleep motion of the user jointly based on the plurality of TSSF. At least one TSSF of the plurality of TSSF is obtained by: communicating, based on the wireless non-contact sensor, a wireless signal in a wireless multipath channel of the venue, extracting a time series of channel information (TSCI) of the wireless multipath channel of the venue from the wireless signal, and obtaining the at least one TSSF based on the TSCI.

Method, apparatus, and system for wireless sleep monitoring

Methods, apparatus and systems for detecting and monitoring vital signs and other periodic motions of an object are disclosed. In one example, a system for monitoring object motion in a venue is disclosed. The system comprises a transmitter, a receiver, and a vital sign estimator. The transmitter is located at a first position in the venue and configured for transmitting a wireless signal through a wireless multipath channel impacted by a pseudo-periodic motion of an object in the venue. The receiver is located at a second position in the venue and configured for: receiving the wireless signal through the wireless multipath channel impacted by the pseudo-periodic motion of the object in the venue, and obtaining at least one time series of channel information (TSCI) of the wireless multipath channel based on the wireless signal. The vital sign estimator is configured for: determining that at least one portion of the at least one TSCI in a current sliding time window is associated with the pseudo-periodic motion of the object in the venue, and computing a current characteristics related to the pseudo-periodic motion of the object in the current sliding time window based on at least one of: the at least one portion of the at least one TSCI in the current sliding time window, at least one portion of the at least one TSCI in a past sliding time window, and a past characteristics related to the pseudo-periodic motion of the object in the past sliding time window.

Various authentication systems may benefit from detection of counterfeits. More particularly, certain authentication systems may benefit from a counterfeit detection scheme applicable to paper surfaces that can employ mobile cameras, such as the cameras associated with mobile phones. A method, according to certain embodiments, can include illuminating a surface of an item with a lighting source of a device. The method can also include capturing a plurality of images of the surface by a camera of the device during the illumination of the surface. The method can further include authenticating the item based on the plurality of images.
