A liquid crystal display includes a first insulation substrate, a gate line, a data line configured to cross the gate line while being insulated therefrom, a thin film transistor connected to the gate line and the data line, a pixel electrode configured to include a first subpixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor and a second subpixel electrode, a second insulation substrate configured to face the first insulation substrate, a common electrode disposed on the second insulation substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first insulation substrate and the second insulation substrate to include a plurality of liquid crystal molecules, where each of the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode includes a unit pixel electrode including a plurality of minute branches that is extended from a horizontal stem and a vertical stem.

Liquid crystal display device

An exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure provides a display device including a first substrate including a plurality of unit regions, a unit electrode portion disposed on the first substrate in one unit region, an opposed electrode facing the unit electrode portion, a liquid crystal layer interposed between the unit electrode portion and the opposed electrode, and a protrusion interposed between the first substrate and the liquid crystal layer and protruded toward the liquid crystal layer. The protrusion includes a pair of horizontal portions facing each other and including a side parallel to a first direction, a pair of vertical portions facing each other and including a side parallel to a second direction different from the first direction, and at least one corner portion including a first oblique side parallel to a direction oblique with respect to the first and second directions.

A liquid crystal display includes: a liquid crystal panel including a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other, and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a local backlight unit configured to irradiate beams to a first region of the liquid crystal panel and including a plurality of light emitting blocks including a first light emitting block, each of the light emitting blocks emitting beams with controllable luminance; a global backlight unit configured to irradiate beams of uniform luminance to a second region of the liquid crystal panel; and a backlight driver configured to supply a driving signal to the local backlight unit and the global backlight unit.

Liquid crystal display with improved backlight

A display device includes a first substrate, thin film transistors, a color filter layer, a light blocking pattern, a second substrate, pixel electrodes, and, a plurality of first spacers. The first substrate includes a display area having a plurality of pixel areas and a non-display area surrounding at least part of the display area, the display area including an interior area and at least one peripheral area disposed exteriorly of the interior area. The second substrate defines with the first substrate a space to contain light transmittance material. The plurality of first spacers is disposed in the light transmittance space between the first and second substrates and only in the interior area of the display area.

A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure includes: a first substrate including a plurality of unit regions positioned at a display area in a plan view; a liquid crystal layer opposing the first substrate; a unit electrode portion positioned on a first surface of the first substrate at one unit region; a lower dam positioned at a peripheral area positioned around the display area in the plan view; and a protrusion positioned corresponding to the unit region in the plan view. The lower dam and protrusion are positioned between the first substrate and the liquid crystal layer and protruded toward the liquid crystal layer. The protrusion enclosing a portion around the unit region with respect to a center of the unit region in the plan view. The lower dam and the protrusion are positioned at a same layer and include the same material.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display includes a first panel which includes a first electrode including a first protrusion and a first alignment layer disposed on the first electrode, a second panel which is disposed to face the first panel, and which includes a second electrode including a second protrusion disposed in a region corresponding to the first protrusion and a second alignment layer disposed on the second electrode, and a liquid crystal layer which is disposed between the first panel and the second panel, where the first protrusion and the second protrusion vertically face each other.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a light shielding pattern disposed on the first substrate, where the light shielding pattern includes an open portion defined in a non-display area, and the open portion is defined in the light shielding pattern.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device includes: a first insulation substrate; a gate line and data line positioned on the first insulation substrate and insulatively crossing each other; a thin film transistor connected with the gate line and data line; a pixel electrode connected with the thin film transistor; a second insulation substrate spaced apart from and facing the first insulation substrate; and a common electrode positioned on the second insulation substrate, in which the pixel electrode includes a first subpixel electrode including first minute branches extended in a plurality of directions and a second subpixel electrode separated from the first subpixel electrode and including second minute branches, one pixel includes the thin film transistor and pixel electrode, and extending directions of the first minute branches and the second minute branches adjacent to each other in an extending direction of the gate line within one pixel are parallel to each other.

A liquid crystal display having a curved structure includes a plurality of pixels and a liquid crystal layer interposed between a first display substrate and a second display substrate. The first display substrate includes a first substrate, gate lines, data lines, a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode disposed in a pixel area, a first thin film transistor, and a second thin film transistor. The second display substrate includes a second substrate, a light blocking member, and a common electrode. Each pixel has a quadrangular shape including a long side and a short side. The long side of each pixel is extended in a first direction that is parallel to a direction in which the liquid crystal display is bent, and the short side of each pixel is extended in a second direction that is vertical to the first direction.

A curved liquid crystal display including a first substrate having a curved shape; a plurality of gate lines and data lines on the first substrate; a plurality of thin film transistors connected to the gate lines and data lines; a plurality of color filters on the thin film transistors; a plurality of pixel electrodes and common electrodes on the plurality of color filters, the plurality of pixel electrodes and common electrodes overlapping with each other with a first insulating layer therebetween; a second substrate having a curved shape, the second substrate facing the first substrate; vertical alignment layers on inner sides of the first substrate and the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer between the vertical alignment layers, wherein liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer are aligned to be vertical to surfaces of the first substrate and the second substrate when an electric field is not formed.

Curved liquid crystal display

Provided is a liquid crystal display including: a display panel which includes a lower panel including a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, and a light blocking member; an upper panel facing the lower panel; and a liquid crystal layer positioned between the lower panel and the upper panel and including liquid crystal molecules. The display panel is a curved display panel which is curved on a first axis. The pixel electrode has long sides and short sides, and the long sides are arranged to be substantially parallel with a second axis perpendicular to the first axis.
